Read in April, 2008
I thought the first half of the book was a bit slow -- maybe because every time we met a character from the first book, Airth had to remind us who they were and what their roles were in the earlier case. Did anyone else get tired of people worrying about Helen and how she'd react to John's involvement in another case? I did. It relegated Helen to the role of fearful wife and she's a better character than that.

It looks like Airth will revisit these people. I hope the next book features P...more

bookshelves: historical, mysteryseries
A very suspenseful series with a great detective as flawed as the men that he hunts. Deals a lot with men home from war that haven't adjusted to life outside the trenches. I highly recommend both Airth's books.

recommends it for: for ones who like mystery - detective
about murder of young girls - teenage; setting of England in 1929. Very interesting to read, couldn't stop till it finish..
