In One Two Buckle My Shoe the police could do with a little inside help at Grasshopper Lawns retirement village to solve the murder of an unpopular resident. Fortunately Sergeant Kirsty Cameron’s slightly eccentric Aunt Edge is right on the spot.

In books, detectives nearly always work alone, although some don’t mind an admiring sidekick as they deftly and efficiently go ab

Please note my review should be a 3.5 stars but sadly Goodreads doesn't allow for that all-important half star that this book deserves. I hope that changes one day soon!

The author sent me this book in exchange for an honest review and so I was very pleasantly surprised to find it a gentle, but authentic and tension-building murder mystery set in a very unique residential home for elderly folk with interesting backgrounds (indeed this is a pre-requisite for a resident's acceptance). What a great

I picked this book up from my vast to-read pile this weekend because I felt in need of a relaxing, undemanding read and a bit of light entertainment. I was not disappointed, greatly enjoying this well-plotted cosy mystery set in a Scottish retirement complex.

The reader is flung right into the heart of the mystery from the opening page, and is soon immersed among a lively and entertaining cast of characters of a certain age, all trying but not always managing to get along within the confines of a

I could have sworn that Miss Maple was back, in Scottish guise. Is it ever fair to compare, possibly not, but this is very Agatha Christie-esk for the modern century. 'One Two' is a great first in series, introducing some wonderful characters of senior years. Lamprey has a very easy read style and an ironic, subtle humour that says most by what it leaves out.
The plot is complex enough with a couple of classic murders, lots of possible clues and badly attached leads, some more doggy than others.

As the author points in the introduction, this is a short work, and a free one, to introduce us to the setting and characters. I liked both very much, though the pacing seemed very rushed at the end. But, I do plan to read on.

As I (the author) can't review it with any credibility myself, these are reviews on Amazon.com, .co and .can: (the star rating is the average on Amazon)

Amazon.com Good plot, well written and easy to read. Got so caught up in it, that I read it in one sitting. Was like an Agatha Christie, light-hearted and no in-your-face violence. Really looking forward to the next one.

Amazon.can This is a perfect "beach" read. Characters were enjoyable and story is well plotted. Give it a try if you want to rea

I really liked the setting for this easy read opener of what promises to be an excellent series of books. The retirement village is for ‘interesting’ people who are older, but not too old and some of them naturally get involved in solving this gentle mystery. Lamprey gives us an original setting, who wouldn’t want to live somewhere where your everyday needs are so well catered for, which is ideal for the spawning of future stories. She skilfully draws her characters so they are fully rounded and ...more

If Grasshopper Lawns was a real retirement village I would immediately apply to be put on the waiting list; sadly the Admissions Board would probably reject my application because I have lots of close relations and my life has been too boring to meet their rigorous standards.
I very much enjoyed reading this book; I have given it 4 stars but wish there was a way to give it 4.5. The well-rounded relationships between the characters and the pace of the plot make this a story I didn't want to put d

This is a wonderful first novel. The characters are clear and the plot is lively and keeps you guessing all the way with red herrings and twists and turns. People and events are described with understanding and tongue in cheek humour.

I adore the main personalities especially William! There HAS to be more William. I wish he and Grasshopper Lawns were real. I would sign up immediately, I love the idea of interesting neighbours and some of these are people you can just imagine becoming instant frie

First in a series, this book is a really good cosy. I love the titles the author has used...very clever. This one introduces the residents of Grasshopper Lawns, a retirement community in Scotland. All the retirees seem to have lived very interesting lives which makes for lots of juicy reasons for murder! The characters are well-rounded, the plots are realistic and loads of fun and mystery are mixed in. I really enjoyed this book and have the rest of the series to read. If you like cosies, you'll ...more

The photograph I've picked was taken soon after I moved to the UK in 2000 and it makes me laugh because the specs are so simply enormous.I hope they give me a studious air but there's a definite touch of startled owl.
