When Warren High's star quarterback is injured during the season opener, Kevin Taylor takes over the position. There's only one problem: Kevin has been used to watching the plays from the sidelines, not leading them from the line of scrimmage. Page-turning sports action and compelling personal drama make this another winner from popular sports novelist Thomas Dygard.Young ...more

Second Stringer is about a second string quarterback that finally gets his big chance when the first string quarterback brakes his leg and isn't able to play for the rest of the season. There are a couple problems though, the second string quarterback (Kevin Taylor) isn't use to leading the offense, he is use to standing back and watching the game on the side lines. Another thing is that the players aren't use to Kevin’s passes and hand-offs, so there are a lot of bad plays. I really enjoyed ...more

Recommends it for: I recommend this book to anyone who likes sports and football.
The book I read for this month was Second Stringer. This book is by Thomas J. Dygard. It is Realistic Fiction because this book could actually take place in current time. The main character of the book is Kevin Taylor. He is very strong, not only physically but mentally. He never gives up hope and faith for his team and himself.I would rate this book a 5. It was probably one of the best books I have ever read. It has so much action and never stops with the plot. Kevin Taylor is the back up ...more

I thought that this book was god for any football fan, because it shows that even though he was a backup quarterback, he could still get the job done when his team needed it. He ended up leading his team to a championship despite missing the great Rob Montgomery. It was a great senior season for him.

I'm giving this one the benefit of the doubt by giving it 4 stars. I'm not the intended audience after all.

Good conflict though. Solid characters. Knowing football would be a plus but even as ignorant as I am, I still found the games thrilling. If you're looking for something to get teen boys to read this is a good choice.

This book is about how a star qb gets hurt and the second string qb has to fill in for him. He feels really scared because he hasn't played that position in a while. His coach says he was doing good but the star qb Is still be picking about every single move he makes. I didn't finish the book do so I can't tell the rest.

Second Stringer by Thomas J. Dygard, talks about a kid named Kevin Taylor. He was always the second best at what he does and was okay with it at first. Warren High is always historical in high school football and they have a star Quarterback named Rob Montgomery. Late in the first game he hurt his knee, forcing Kevin to take over. Dygard, uses this situation to show friendship and no matter how tough the situation you can only practice and improve.
The very first game when Kevin was the first s

The book I read was Second Stringer. The author is Thomas J. Dygard. This book taught me to work hard, because anything could happen in the world of sports. I liked this book a lot, and it was fun to read. It taught me to work harder, and be the best I can be. This book really shows readers that hard work pays off. It also shows that even though you and someone else are rivals on the field, court, or whatever your playing on, you can still be friends and help each other out. This was like when ...more

I think that this was a very well written book. This book tells of how the First stringer a very good player, gets hurt. Then the average second stringer had to come in. He didn't know if he could do it. He started out ok, then the first stringer started coaching him. The second stringer then realized that the only thing that the first stringer had was football. He didn't have a good, home, and his mother had to work two jobs, because his father had a bad desease. He started coaching the second ...more

Second Stringer is an encouraging book about a boy named Kevin who is the back up quarterback for his football team and the starting quarterback is out for season because he eared something. He is so nervous because everyone is doubting him and he does not have enough confidence. Will he have enough confidence for the rest of the season?

In His Own Words...

"I can't remember when I first started writing fiction. it was shortly after I began reading fiction, I'm sure.

"I've been a voracious reader for as long as I can remember. As a teenager, I read a lot of the same kinds of books I'm writing-the John R. Tunis sports stories, for example. I also read a lot of history when I was young-and I still do now. It's always fascinated me.
