This is a feel-good romance with little angst. I enjoyed the relationship between the main characters Emmett and Alex and enjoyed their interactions with the supporting cast. Emmett's family is great and I look forward to reading more about them. I really liked the setting of the book - not just the small southern town but in the salvage business as well. I love reclaimed building materials, fixtures and antiques so reading about a character who made a living at that was interesting. I recommend ...more

4 Heart Review by Dan

Alex King has been escaping his childhood his whole life. Raised by Pentecostal extremists, he and both his sisters escaped as soon as they could when they reached legal age.

Alex took a banking position in Atlanta, pretty much as far away from Oregon as he could get and still be in the US. He did really well, and then had an opportunity to advance to an Assistant Manager position in a tiny little burb called Tatesville, an hour outside Atlanta in the deep south countryside.

There was something just a little bit endearing about the characters in this book - from Emmett and Alex to the whole clan of Gaither's - there was Momma, Pa, Uncles, Aunts, cousins, brothers and a sister. Add to that Alex's best friend Hale and it was almost hard to keep track of people!

Emmett is a self-declared redneck with a wonderful family who love him for who he is. They are country folk but with a thriving salvage business - Emmett has a real talent for spotting items in run down houses t

This book was....eh....okay. Oh, perfectly pleasant, but there's not much here to distinguish it from about a thousand other contemporary romances.

I did appreciate the fact that the southern redneck family depicted in this story was a very warm, gay-friendly group; it's a nice play against typical southern rural stereotypes. However, at the same time I was a bit disappointed that the architectural salvage operation run by the family didn't figure more prominently in the novel, because that is ce

Not too bad. I really, really want to go higher than 3 starts, but I have a couple of issues. First, as others have mentioned, get a better editor...too many mistakes. However, Mr. Ortiz is relatively new, so I will overlook that. My biggest complaint is that the author seems to fall into the trap of having to have a masculine and a feminine character. That annoys me to no end. On his own, Emmet is a great character (hence the 3 stars), but Alex is not a woman, and he is too often depicted as ...more

I was looking forward to read Love and Salvage: Loving Emmett because I’ve read the Renovating Love series by Mathew Ortiz and found it enjoyable. I was expecting Love and Salvage to be on par. I was totally wrong. I was blown away by Love and Salvage! It was on a completely different level than the previous books. The writing, storytelling and overall feel of the book were so much richer. In fact, I had to re-read the book because I read it before going on vacation and had to refresh my memory. ...more

This story was a warm romance set amidst a lovable Southern family. It was told through the two main characters' points of view, which I enjoyed. Some upsets but nothing too dark or overly dramatic to overshadow the developing relationship. (view spoiler) Ma and Pa's attempt to find Emmet ...more

I'd say 3 stars for the actual story and a whole extra star for sweaty, licky, smell-me sex. So hot! Super cute story of Alex, the bank manager, and Emmett, the homegrown county salvage guy. The big, sweaty, aw-shucks maam' gentleman. This was the first in the series so we meet a whole cast of funny characters that actually make me want to continue with the series. Emmett's mom and dad alone could make me read more. Realistic? Nah, but who cares, it was so entertaining.

Loving Emmett was such a great read it had all the charm of a great southern town and family.
This is the first book of the Love and Salvage Series and I can't wait to read the rest .
I love the way this Author Matt Ortiz mixed quick wit one liners throughout the story . Sowing us how too different guys can become one . I highly recommend this book and I will defiantly be reading more from this Author
Lois - Who Reads
This is an honest to goodness happy, sweet book, with a bare minimum of angst. The book centers around Emmett Gaither and Alex King, two adorable men who needed a little push from Mable (Emmett's mom) to go out on that first date. Emmett has an endearing family that do a little bit of meddling to make sure Emmett and Alex get together. In addition to a really cute romance, there is some really funny one-liners, and hints of the other books in the series.

I am such a Matt Ortiz fanboy, and this new book did not disappoint. I loved the little ties to the previous series, but this is totally new and different. I adore Emmett, he such a sweet, southern gentleman and the feelings between him and Alex were palpable. I was hooked at the 5% mark with just meeting the entire Gaither clan.

I enjoyed Emmett & Alex's story. These were great characters. I will definitely be rereading these books again. They are funny and heart felt. I hated what happened to Emmett but, in true big Southern family tradition, he was avenged. LOL can't wait for more stories in this series.

Loving Emmett

What can I say but Mathew has pulled me into another story. The love found between Emmett and Alex is beautiful. Emmett family dynamic as great and his Ma and Pa are the loving parents you wish for. I can't wait to start on Uncle Eli's story.
