What a terrific surprise this book was! I picked it up, and I really didn't hold out much hope for it. I expected the typical, run-of-the-mill mystery, but was I in for a shock! Once I began reading, I honestly did not want to put it down. And with my review schedule, that doesn't happen much any more. I often read several books at once, and even some of my top-rated books are not suspenseful page-turners.

First of all, there is no sex in the book, and the profanity it extremely minimal. I am imm

Stacie thinks it is just a normal day as she and her husband Jon are planning a trip for their 30th wedding anniversary. When he goes out to get champagne her entire world changes. Suddenly the police are at her door and her husband is dead. He apparently had a heart attack.

But things are not as they seem. Stacie meets a man named Tom who aparently knew Jon and says she needs to talk to him. Stacie then receives a packet of letters from Jon telling her that everything she knew about him was a

This is one of those books that I had mixed feelings on. After reading the prologue, I thought the inner dialogue was a little weird, or unnatural sounding. I continued on and then quickly found myself rather intrigued. Matter of fact, by the end of the first chapter alone I was VERY intrigued. The anticipation kept building and building, too. It was very suspenseful! But, then it just fell a little flat for me. Some things just seemed over the top unbelievable, and a few scenes were confusing ...more

Murder and secrets are the basis of Champagne Lies by Wendy VanHatten. Stacie is informed in a hospital waiting room that her husband has died from a massive heart attack. Stacie is stunned because her husband was a pillar of health. As Stacie tries to process this news strange things start happening. Stacie soon realizes she truly did not know the man she married.

Secret rooms, wills and strict instructions within a series of letters are what Jon has left Stacie. She does not panic but her safet

I really enjoyed this book. I found it equal to and even exceeding the talents of some more famous authors. The story line was quite interesting with the surprise death of a husband and surprises in what was left behind and instant wealth previously unknown. The scenery from San Francisco to Italy, along with foods and wines in the mix adds flavor to the journey to discover hidden truths about something she thought she knew so well. Even when my eyes were tired, I didn't want to wait until ...more

I really enjoyed this book, the pace was fast and the chapters short. (kind of reminded me of James Patterson) While I figured out some of it, it was interesting to see how it all came together.
