An enjoyable, and often gripping, read - rare combination for a book on a medical topic. I highly recommend that anybody who comes into contact with the psychologically afflicted population read this book. This is especially helpful for those with autistic loved ones that also suffer from episodes of violence, catatonia, and/or depression/mania. It's hard to imagine anyone being in the so-called "anti-ECT" camp after reading this book; and I do not believe that the author commits the straw man ...more

I do not have children, nor do I know anyone with an autistic child. Even so, I was riveted by this book. The author is such a good writer and she made it something of a page-turner. It's the perfect mix of memoir and reportage.

Full disclosure: I am the publicist for this book. That said, I am free to choose which titles I take on and this one hooked me in from page one so I jumped at the chance to work on it.
