Synopsis
In the small town of Eclipse Bay nothing is more certain than the Harte/Madison feud. Hannah Harte and Rafe Madison are expected to continue the tradition but when they are thrust together by an unexpected inheritance, they soon discover that what they feel for each other is far from hatred. Unfortunately, their return to Eclipse Bay has also awakened a dormant threat that may jeopardize everything they are working toward.

2.5 stars. I have mixed feelings on this book. It felt too much like a bland mystery for me.

There was romance, but it didn't draw me in as much as I would have liked. Rafe Madison and Hannah Harte are the two main characters. Their grandfathers were business partners turned enemies, with a feud that lasted thirty-some years. Hannah's Aunt Isabel owns a large mansion. She believes Rafe and Hannah are right for each other, even though they have never dated. When she dies she leaves her mansion to...more

My least favorite by this author so far. Since she seems to have dozens of titles, I suppose that's bound to happen sooner or later.

This book attempts to be a modern day Romeo and Juliet, with the children of two feuding families developing a romantic interest in one another. Something about the feud never resonated with me, though, and I got increasingly annoyed every time they talked about what the Harts would do or what a Madison would do, as if every member of the same family has the same p...more

This was a decent read, but with a pretty bland story line. I never really bought the whole feud thing between the grandfathers, & I felt like it wasn't really supported well. I live in a small town, but even I found the bit about generalizing personality traits based on family name to be unbelievable for two people who spent so much time together. Those types of generalizations are more believable for the initial phase of the relationship, but once they started interacting so much, they sho...more

like all her books it is so much more than just a romance novel... the constant anticipation of what would happen next keeps you reading long into the night... as it's pointed out several times in the book it's the story of romeo and juliet but with a happier ending... but it's more than just 2 people that come from feuding families... Rafe was accused of murder 8 years ago and was only kept from jail by Hannah's alibi for him... now they've returned to Eclipse Bay because Hannah's quirky aunt l...more

This is the first book in the Eclipse Bay trilogy. The book opens with Hannah walking down the road in the seaside where she was raised. She had just left her date because he wanted more than she was able to give and is determined to walk home. She meets up with Rafe Madison a member of the hated Madison family. He has ditched his date, because she is using him. They walk together and talk. Rafe leaves her at her door with a since of wanting. The next morning Hannah is required to be an alibi fo...more

I really enjoyed this book, and I'm really looking forward to continuing the series.

I happened upon a used copy of this book. It's been sitting on my dresser for awhile, but I decided to give it a try. That was this morning. I finished the book later in the evening. This was quite the feat, since I have two small children. I took advantage of their nap time and put chores on the back burner.

Krentz certainly did a phenomenal job with Eclipse Bay by setting up the plot early and keeping...more

I really liked this story! I’m excited that it’s a series and that I get to follow these characters a little further. Both Rafe and Hannah are incredibly independent individuals and to see them come together was fun. Hannah is very naive which was a little annoying at times, but it still worked for her in this book.

The little bit of drama that the two were involved in gave the story something more than just a love story. Most of all, their honesty and determination carry them through the invest...more

Krentz may single-handedly get me to forgive the contempory genre and try some others. This story featured a very silly family feud as the backdrop for the Hero & the Heroine. I liked this book a lot because both of the main characters were human, made mistakes, and just the tiniest bit neurotic. The family background and characters were also good and the heroine's dog stole the show. As with Deep Waters, this book also featured a murder mystery as part of the subplot which brings together t...more

The Madison Brothers are two of my fav all time book heroes and Rafe is definitely my fav, though the enter Madison Clan shines - including Rafe and Gabe's onery old grandfather. Rafe reminds me of James Dean in East of Eden's openning scene all alone on the top of the railway car. The fact that he - Rafe - spends years to prove himself worthy of Hannah endears him further. All three of the Eclipse Bay books are great and the continuation of the "mystery" from book to book is great. It always am...more

this book was just alright. before starting the novel i thought it would be pretty good. the plot being about a fued between two families and how an individuals from each family fall in love and marry eventhough their families disapprove. well...the fued really didn't seem warranted and the relationship between the two main characters wasn't all that great and then there was this mystery that got solved like a Scooby Doo cartoon. seriously, i mean the villain actually said "if it weren't for u t...more

This book could have been pretty good. It has a good premise (a couple striving to come together besides their warring parents) but the author never makes good on it. Everyone seems to think this couple should be together, including one of the men who started the family feud, so the idea that they can't be together because of the family feud is kind of ridiculous. Also, these two people talk for one night eight years ago and then somehow progress that they should get married after being in each...more

Liked this book. It kept my interest, the characters were well developed, and the pace of the story was good. My only gripe was that we really didn't see much from the hero's perspective as far as his feelings for the heroine. We see his actions and implications of what motivates him, but there is nothing that indicates that he is in love with the heroine. For that matter, there is not really much until the end that suggests that she is in love with him- attracted, yes, but in love- no. Would li...more

I'm a little uncertain about this book. The story of Rafe and Hannah was OK; Hannah's character could be a little "prissy" at times and that sort of wore on me. The big mystery was mediocre but kept the story moving. I also didn't care for how many of the characters actions (both Rafe and Hannah) were blamed for their family names "I'm a Madison that's why". I listed to this on the Audiobook, which was fine, but I really didn't like the narrator's voice for Hannah so that might have contributed...more

A modern day romance with a touch of Romeo and Juliet, a hunky leading man, a murder mystery, and a beautiful beach setting.

I wanted to love this book, I really did, but it fell flat in a few areas.

Rafe is the small town bad-boy from the Madison family. With a history of failed marriages, his goal in life is to stay out of jail. Rafe cooks like a God, looks like a God, and apparently has the patience of a God to put up with Hannah.

Hannah, daughter of the feuding family, the Harts, is a prissy,...more

Have you read a book where you fall in love with one of the characters? Of course you have!!!!! I did reading Jayne Ann Krentz’s Eclipse Bay, the first book in the trilogy of the Harte and Madison families of Eclipse Bay.
It’s a kind of modern day Romeo and Juliet…..the two families being at war with each other for three generations and what happens when Hannah Harte and Rafe Madison fall in love with each other.
Well, it’s a bit more than that!!
Rafe Madison is the local bad boy whose main goal i...more

Review of Kindle Edition of a fun, witty Krentz romantic suspense novel from the year 2000

Eclipse Bay is Book 1 in a trilogy of three, contemporary, romantic-suspense novels. The second book is Dawn in Eclipse Bay. The third book is Summer in Eclipse Bay.

I checked out a Kindle copy of this book through my local library, and the publisher required a rather onerous USB download. The formatting is oddly done with double-spacing between every paragraph. This might actually have made the book easier...more

My first series from Jayne Ann Krentz. I fell in love with this book! Modern version of Romeo & Juliet;

Hannah Harte and Rafe Madison are from two families that have hated each other for two generations, their grandparents and their parents, now they're expected to feel the same way. However they feel anything but.
One night, Hannah is on the date with her boyfriend, they get into an argument and gets out of his car and he leaves her in the middle of the night, alone. Hannah, a responsible, o...more

An easy read. The end was pretty obvious from the beginning but it was sill interesting getting from one to the other. Good characters - usual cast of ones you are supposed to like and ones you are not. The main "mystery" that ran through the book ended in a way that I would not have predicted. I noticed that this is the 1st book in a trilogy and I would have thought there would have been more loose ends at the end of book #1 but I'm sure there will be new stories in the other books. I look forw...more

This book was an easy read but was bland in the mystery and romance department with the addition of predictability. The mystery plot was totally unbelievable with the sequence of clues being so difficult for the characters to draw conclusion upon..... but somehow they put two and two together and came up with six. It was odd to say the least. As one Goodreads reviewer (Meme) said.... it was like a Scooby Doo mystery and the guilty party actually said "if it weren't for u two i'd have gotten away...more

This is the first book in a trilogy. The story was pretty good but I was disappointed that the so-called feud between the Hartes and Madisons isn't as bad as I was led to believe. The families didn't put up any resistance to Hannah and Rafe getting together.

The ending left me hanging a bit with the revelation of the villain but I'm hoping that the subsequent books will wrap up all of the plotlines effectively.

Hannah and Rafe... manipulated by an aunt... good girl vs bad boy grown up... a mystery to solve. Likeable characters. I thought it funny that as first in a trilogy that the other characters were only introduced by name; not with any interactions with these two... I wonder if their story will be picked up in passing in the other two, or if they will stay 3 essentially different stories. We'll see.

If you are expecting the paranormal edge that some of the author's other books have, you will probably be a little disappointed. During several scenes, I found myself expecting an arcane society twist, but it just didn't appear. Was still a fun read. Loved Winston, who was definitely not a frou frou dog, and hope to see more of Virgil, Arizona, Mitchell, and Sulivan.

Narrated by Joyce Bean - Narration 3*s

My first disappointment when listening to Joyce Bean - and I've listened to her a lot. She didn't catch Hannah correctly, making her sound childish and/or bitchy.

Mary Pfiffer narrated the first unabridged version of Eclipse Bay, she's a bit monotone but she didn't make me dislike a character I had liked when I read the book myself.

This is the only book I have read by Jayne Ann Krentz and enjoyed it. Eclipse Bay is the story like many romances of two families who hate each other but of course two children from the younger generation are put in a situation where they have to interact with each other. What will happen? Once again quick, easy and very predictable.

I enjoyed this book. The characters were great, believable and just the right amount of spice, adventure, and mystery. The writing was good, not too cheesy and consistant in it's telling. I was immediately captivated by the story and characters. I also really liked the reader of the book, she did a great job. It could have used a little more depth at times. But overall I liked it. I think my favorite things was the "Well Shoot & Damn" it made me laugh every time. There were a few love scenes...more

Ah, Winston, you perfect dog, you. Maybe even too perfect. But your owner and her hero are entertaining. As is Arizona Snow!

A warm-fuzzy comfort read (and one I come back to again and again), but objectively speaking not the greatest JAK ever. I still love it.

Actually reminds me of some by Nora Roberts... A good read, despite the heroine - characterized as prim and prissy and indeed, rather irritating on the whole. Hero much more fun to be around, and one can only hope she mellows before he loses the stars in his eyes..

Audiobook - 2.5 stars

This was OK. I can't say I liked it. It was all a bit ho-hum and... what wine are they drinking now? - Hmmm wouldn't mind a wine... Perhaps I'll put this book down and go get one... It just didn't grab my attention (except to make me thirsty). I don't think I'll continue with the next book.
