Man-oh-man! After the first few chapters, I was sure Miss Yates was going to let me down. I thought this was destined to be a two or three star read. But, nope; she pulled out her magic pen – or computer – and managed to redeem the hero, as well as the implausible situation.

It was nice to read about a heroine from a different heritage than is typical of Harlequin Presents, too.

I just don’t know where Attar is located, since it is a fictional country.

I received this book free of charge from Ha

As always, MY writes a very emotional story with her elegant style. And as always she creates a damaged beyond-repair hero who wouldn't know love even if it hits him between his eyes. Alik may be an unemotional mercenary, but when it comes to his daughter and her adoptive mother, Jada, he feels his walls crumble. After having a real marriage, the last thing widow Jada wants is a marriage of convenience on paper, but it's the only way to keep her daughter. The irrepressible attraction be

Alik is a bad bad man. His only redeeming feature is his loyalty to his friend Sayid, from the companion book Heir to a Desert Legacy. He's not anyone's idea of good husband and father material. But he is, reluctantly, a father.
Widowed Jada has been caring for his child since the death of the mother. All she wants is to be Leena's mother. She's already been a wife and being Alik's wife would only be bearable because of baby Leena.
Watching these two make a convenient marriage is like watching gun

I have often had the thought that when a woman has a child the only way she could not know is if she has memory loss, but for a man it is totally different, he can be the father to many and have no clue what so ever.

In the new Maisey Yates read this is what happens to Alik he has a heart as cold as ice and as unbreakable as a diamond, and this of course makes the man no picnic to be around, no ladies this is the type of man that you will look at and immediately realise he spells trouble and it w

Maisey Yates has done it again!! this is the second book i am reading of hers. the first one was extremely delightful. and this one also is no less. its and answer for those who say that mills and boon romances are all plastic!!

the story is about a woman who has lost her husband and has no other family. Jada Patel adopts a baby girl and after a year or so her real father comes to claim her. Jada is all shattered when the court decides the case in favor of the real father, Alik Vasin. Alik is a

Bad boy Russian aka Alik is a tough character who just found out he has a child he knew nothing about and was about to be adopted by Jada, he goes to claim his child. Jada has loved his child and wants to make her hers. Two worlds collide, sweet, loved woman against hard cold unmoving sex on legs. Just one thing to say Maisey Yates wow! "Yates' tale of loss, pain and love's salvation is simply incredible. Jada and Alik are day and night - she's soft and quiet, he's amoral and broken. Yet, they are perfectly matched, and their progression to love is searingly intense." RT Book Reviews. rated 4 1/2 stars

This book had me crying in chapter one, but rooting for the hero and heroine to find a way to make their situation work. Cold-hearted Alik was not going to let a child of his grow up without a father, since he knew what being an orphan was like. Jada wanted to adopt the little girl to help fill the void in her life left by the death of her husband. She had raised the child from birth and was moments away from being given the adoption when Alik shows up.

After seeing that he just can't rip the lit

Loved this. This is one of those titles that will have you converted to the romance genre in a second. Could not put it down, was reading while veggies were boiling, while walking to answer the door, was totally captivated. There was no cheesiness here, no wasted words or boring filler scenes, it was an emotional journey full of angst and heat and emotional development and of course that beautifully, broken, dangerous and sexy man, Alik. Will definitely be adding more from Maisey Yates to my col ...more

Jada plans to adopt and go on living after the death of her husband. But suddenly there is the dad and he wants his little girl. Jada is devastated and makes what seems like a bargain with the devil to stay in her daughter's life. All of this seems like a very typical Harlequin plot but where this one takes off and becomes different is seeing into Alik and see all the secrets, struggles, and fears he is dealing with. There is deep emotions and we are allowed to see their grief. And no matter how ...more

OMG This book is great. The author did a wonderful job. Alik and Jada was exactly what the other person needed. As I read this book I went through every emotion by the end I felt a tear drop. Alik was a man who never had love. never felt love until Jada and Leena came into his life. Jada was married before her husband died she wasn't ready to let go of the past but being with Alik made her different and she was afraid because he made her forget her past. In the end love conquered all.

Typical "billionaire playboy falling for simple woman" story so I didn't really finish it because it felt like I was re-reading 100 other stories. And the guy is such an ass- like seriously dude what the fuck? Did the cosmonaut Pavlove buttfuck you in USSR or did he force his space-dog to buttfuck you? If not then stop being such an asshole. Don't fucking turn off your heart. Just fill it with sorrow like Regina Spektor and move on.

This book was a great sexy read, and included some very funny, laugh aloud scenes.
The hero is a business minded alpha male and way to pragmatic for the heroine, who runs on emotion.
Looking forward to reading another book, most likely the previous one to this story. This book refers to another couple, who I'm guessing are in another book :)

Yes, this story was a romance and you always route for them to get together or stay together by the end of the tale and you are just along for the ride. I liked the ride. This was a wonderful story about two people thrown together by circumstances. Alix Vasin is a powerful man used to living on the edge and almost always available for hire if the price is right. He is used to living only for himself and what his money can buy him. Until, one day, he is informed that he is a father and about to ...more

I’ve been reading Harlequin romance novels since I was a young teen, and in that time, I’ve built up some expectations and preferences between the various lines. While Romance is my favorite because it focuses the most on the people, which is why I read romance amidst my science fiction ideas and fantasy cultures, I have always had a soft spot for the Presents line. This was where Harlequin would place novels about faraway places with rolling deserts

Alik Vasin is a shrewd businessman who does each job without attachment, much like his personal relationships. Without a family, with a wealthy sheik as his best friend, there’s no one else that he cares about other than the sheik’s family and even that surprises him. He has become a very self-centered man, choosing his pleasure when he needs it but never getting emotionally involved.

Jada Patel has spent the last year caring for her one-year-old, soon to be adopted, daughter. She is anxious to g

Another new to me author, Maisey Yates. I had run across her on Twitter and found her to be entertaining so I was really excited when I got a chance to try one of her novels. I really liked the premise, icy Russian trying to do right by the daughter he never knew he had. Young single mother who’s raising this daughter as her own. Jada may not be Leena’s mother by blood but she’s her mother in any way that counts. When Alik proposes a marriage of convenience so that Jada can stay in Leena’s life, ...more

In Heir to a Dark Inheritance by Maisey Yates Alik Vasin is “broken beyond repair”. There is no room in his life for emotion, there never has been. As a youngster on the streets of Russia, he did what he had to do to survive.

When Alik finds out he has a 1 year old daughter he knew nothing about, who is about to be adopted, he stops what he is doing and goes to claim his daughter, Leena. Widowed Jada has had Leena with her from the moment she was born. As far as she is concerned, the adoption pro

Great easy read.

The companion to Heir to a Desert Legacy is the story of Alik Vasin. Best friend to Sheik Sayid, Alik learns that he has a daughter and if he doesn't return to the US immediately, he will lose all rights to her.

Alik meets Jada, the woman trying to adopt his daughter, Leena. Jada is Leena's mother since her birth mother gave her up at birth, and was attempting to finalize the adoption when Alik was found. Now Alik has shown up and wants his child. Jada is about to lose her baby forever.

This is a thin quick book to read. The plot was OK, I think that the way they got together in the first place is a bit strange, but oh well if you can think it…it can happen…I guess.

The characters are interesting and yet that same problem in all romances is that both leads are gorgeous, perfect and extremely driven at their choice of careers, and the sex is the best either had ever had in their lives even Alik who admits to sleeping with more women than he can count. I realize this is the autho

This is a good book, Alik is almost child like in his emotions because of the lack of care he had growing up. Even unable to comprehend that he might come to love his own daughter. Jada doesn't want to move on from her past except to raise her daughter. Together they learn to love.

Otra deliciosa novela de Maisey Yates... Me encantó. Ella, tierna y encantadora. Él, con un pasado muy oscuro para mi gusto, pero lo soporté. La tensión y la sensualidad, como en casi todas las novelas de Yates, me atrapó y conquistó.

Got free for being part of the Harlequin reader panel. Tried to read this one, but could not force myself to finish it.

I cannot stand stories where the hero insists on ripping his biological child away from a loving home just because "she's my blood!" when he has no actual interest in the child herself. When he plans to take the child away from a loving adoptive mother and dump her off to be raised by nannies and not have anything to do with her apart from taking responsibility financially. It's

I actually liked Alik because I understood how he grew up and how it impacted his life. I wish there were more scenes with him interacting with his daughter.

Another cabin read from the long weekend. I don't normally read the Harlequin Presents imprint, but found a few at the small town grocery so decided to see if things had changed from the extreme alpha hero and virginal heroine storylines of the 80s. I eas pleasantly surprised with this strong willed and nurturing heroine and the icy, domineering but able to develop and grow hero. Yes, the stories are still far fetched and full of machismo along with exotic locales but the heroines have backbone. ...more

- My Description -
Jada adopts a little girl, Leena.

Later, Leena's father is found.

He wants to do the right thing and take Leena to live with him.
Leena and Jada are a package deal and he can't have one without the other.

To ensure her future with Leena, Jada decides to marry Alik.

A purely platonic relationship. (Yeah, right.)

It certainly started off that way....

- My Review -
This was just an alright read.

The story-line was original and something different which I liked.
