Okay, not sure what I was thinking when I rated this in 2013 because this is really a 4.5 Star read. The story isn't simple and the characters have depth. I don't always have to like the back-story for a character to appreciate the thought and richness of their development.

Robyn has huge talent that she has filtered most of her adult life so she didn't shine brighter than her husband. Now he's gone and she can quit hiding, but can remember how to do that or did he destroy h

When an author writes a book that you have been waiting for you are nervous and so is the author especially if you know and root for the author. When I open Afterwards I was nervous because I did not know what to expect, I knew this book was going to be good from the first page.
Never judge a book by its cover meaning the main character,
I think the thing I liked about this book is I got to know a character that I was not sure I would like Chris Scaife. I got to know him, I understood the why ev

OMG this book was so good I didn't want it to end. It felt like Riley and Shawn 2.0. From the previous books I never really had Chris figured out. I always pictured him as a Heavy D physically. So when his description was revealed I was pleasantly surprised. Nia has this way of drawing you in from the first sentence and that was how I felt reading this book. Robyn was that positive woman. No drama, no nonsense, who wears her heart on her sleeve. She was the perfect ying to Chris's yang. Chris ...more

I don't have the words to describe how happy I was Saturday morning when I logged into FB and saw that Afterwards had been released. I immediately bought a copy, then got busy and before I knew it, it was Sunday evening and I hadn't read a single word. As soon as I was able to catch a breath, I started reading...and didn't (ok, couldn't) stop until I was done. This book is excellent. I've read and loved all of this author's books, and feel like she somehow manages to get better with each one.

Oh my gosh, where do I begin! I absolutely loved this book. I was up until after 4 a.m. fighting sleep, trying to read as much as I could lol!

Let me start by simply saying how much I adored both Robyn and Chris. Loved them together, loved them apart, just LOVED them! I was so glad there was no instalove - their relationship was built on a solid friendship which eventually developed into more, and it made the story much more enjoyable.

Robyn is easily my favorite of all of Ms. Forrester's heroine

Best book ever! I love all of Nia Forrester books and this one is Amazing. I love all of the characters she has created that we continue to get little snip bits of. The dialogue, the emotions, and sex, it just so amazing. I loved Robyn. She was strong, independent, and forgiving. She knew what she wanted and she went after it. She didn't take the easy road, she made her decision based on the love of her unborn child and for her own peace of mind. Every time I read about Chris, I invision Sean ...more

Listen, Nia is the Queen of creating these beautifully complex characters, and pulling us right into their lives. I really felt like Robyn was my homegirl, and I swear I was ready to come through the screen of my tablet to fight Chris more than once. Not that I would have won, but still! I really, really loved Chris and Robyn's story. It was so emotional, and I felt like I was right there with them. Beautiful, beautiful writing, as always.

Excellent, well told story! Not much more needs to be said but there is a lot more I want to say.

I wasn't even sure I was interested in Chris' story but I am oh so glad it was told. When he was first introduced in 'Commitment' he did not come off as a particularly likable character. But throughout that story and the books that followed we started to see a glimpse of his loyalty and that there might be a softer side there.

In the beginning of the story, to see this hard, street, thug-type guy be

I waited on pins and needles for this book. I wasn't sure how was going to handle hearing Chris' story. I had my preconceived notions about him in Commitment and the subsequent books but hey after reading Afterwards, I was blown away. Ms. Forrester was able to capture such an enigmatic man and give us this 3-dimensional view that really humanized him. I am not sure how I felt about Robyn... At first, I was hesitant to connect with her because of her decisions but through the magic that is Nia ...more

I love complicated characters. The more flawed they are, the better. And that is something I always appreciate in Nia Forrester's writing. Instead of serving us characters and situations that are picture-perfect, she presents us with three-dimensional characters who sometimes infuriate us, yet who we begin to care about very deeply.

With Robyn, we are given a woman whose life was perfect on paper until she finds herself having to rebuild her life following an unexpected divorce. We feel her pain

I loved this book! I have loved all of Nia's book but this really resonated with me. After briefly getting to know, Chris Scaife in Commitment and Unsuitable Men, now it's his turn to fall in love. Mean-sexy and complicated and a whole lot more than meets the eye. The heroine Robin Crandall, who's rebounding from her own personal losses loves him simply for him. Very passionate and very provoking! Excellent Jib Ms Forrester!

Nia Forrester never disappoints. She has an amazing gift of writing a compelling story that will keep readers engaged from beginning to end. I took my time reading this book because I did not want the story to end. It exceeded my expectations of good.

Loved this book! Ms. Forrester has become my new favorite author. All of her character are well developed and real. Chris and Robyn are working so hard to be friends, they are not prepared for the relationship they fall into.

Dang Chris

Okay so when I read the back of the book I really wasn't interested in Chris. Just like a lot of people he wasn't my favo character in the couple of books I read. But I was not expecting what I just read. First off I always liked Robyn. From Commitment she was a bad a** from the glimpse we got to see.
Again another unlikely couple but to very strong characters. About to read the next!!!

Chris its time my man!

The introduction to the Chris Scaiffe story was what readers needed. The closure for Brendan and Tracy was necessary to tell Chris's story. Somehow I did not foresee Robyn, the topnotch go get them lawyer as his soul mate. I could not have been more wrong. I must admit in all honesty, I did not like Robyn. After the initial sweet loving person, another colder calculated woman emerged. Yes Chris needed a strong career minded woman, but Robyn began to be too much. All the bab

Back when Nia Forrester briefly introduced the character Chris Scaife in Commitment, I was poised to dislike him very much. In him I saw shades of Suge Knight crossed with Sean “P. Diddy” Combs. I think I may have said this to Ms. Forrester at some point, too. Fast forward to a few days ago, when Afterwards was deeply discounted, I went scrambling to my kindle to make sure I had a copy. Thankfully, my copy was waiting snugly in my kindle for the day I would crack it open and give it a serious ...more

I enjoyed so many aspects of this story, including the way it began. Robyn shows who she is as a character in how she treats Chris when they meet. Though she's her own woman and does things her way, the selflessness she displays when the reader meets her continues to the end of Afterwards. She's a nurturer, even to the point where it's detrimental.

What I enjoyed most about her character is the lack of expectation. I've read a lot of stories where women want something from a relationship and turn

"Afterwards" by Nia Forrester as a beautifully African American romantic story of Robyn and Chris. This is definitely one of those reads that once you start it will be hard to put down until the very end because this author really brings it out to the reader. I like the way the author draws you into the read. We find these two people who are no way alike...with Robyn being so positive with "no drama,

I loved this book. I know because I read it in one afternoon and when it ended I gasped. An unexpected and audible gasp. I read a lot and that almost NEVER happens which made me realize that something I look for and appreciate in any book is the element of surprise. In Ms. Forrester's latest work I found she surprised me over and over again.

Afterwards features Chris Scaife, who is almost everything I don't look for in a guy: cold, arrogant, bossy, dismissive, and uncommunicative. His depth and b

Afterwards, a beautifully complicated love story is not an ordinary romance, mushy mush love story. It is an exquisite tapestry of languid prose that gives a realistic view of a modern romance.

Robyn is a recently divorced attorney, disillusioned about her career and life in general. She's placed herself in a self-imposed exile at her mom's home. Uncertain about her career and her future. Chris, a mega-multimillionaire workaholic music mogul, cynical of love, relationships, and women. He's a dist

I live in Washington D.C. Philadelphia, PA where by day I work on public policy and by night I read authors who move me, and craft woman-centered fiction.
