In an uncertain world, we cling to familiar things to make us feel secure: Baseball, a local watering hole, a friendly town sheriff, man's best friend, a nicely landscaped backyard, love... A Chorus of Wolves by Alex Kimmell is a collection of short tales, vignettes of life not as we know, but how we hope it will not be. These are not sweet bed time stories to sooth the restless night. No in fact they are exactly the opposite.

In A Chorus of Wolves, Kimmell has put together short stories and excerpts from novels to come of that world that exists on the periphery of our mind. The world where darkness creeps just a little closer to the light and in response the light retreats.

Here is a collection of properly creepy tales for a winter's night. Alex sets up his stories with care and knocks them down like dominoes when he's done. The action flies quickly when it comes and it isn't completely spelled out for you, Alex beckons the reader in as an equal partner to fill in the gaps.

This isn't a collection of pure ghost stories or monsters that go bump in the night, but a touch of unsettling creepiness that is often hidden in the familiar world around us. Inside you will fin

Alex Kimmel's work has been described as elegant horror, and I can't disagree. Alex paints entire scenes with his words and gives us amazing detail with every syllable. Each sentence is a pleasure to read, no matter how horrific the subject matter or the character. In this collection of short stories, Alex explores the daily life of a serial killer, the faithfulness of an animal friend, the desperation of the lycanthropes to survive, and why you should be careful never to walk into the wrong ...more

A facebook friend recommended A Chorus of Wolves because I do enjoy the occasional dark, twisted tale. From the cover I thought it might be a werewolf story. But what I found was not at all what I imagined. Author Alex Kimmell offers a lyrical collection of six surreal tales that had me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. I made the mistake of starting this read in the evening and I didn't stop reading until the eery quiet of morning hours. Spine tingling taken to a whole new level! I ...more

I scarfed this book down, knowing full-well how long it takes to write, edit and proof a book. I'm ashamed of myself. But, A Chorus of Wolves is a delicious read. I finished a story, only to proclaim it was my favorite. And then I began the next - only to name it my new favorite. And, no spoilers I promise, but I cringe now as I walk under the trees in my neighborhood.

Specifically, I love and appreciate how effortlessly Kimmell weaves characters and families, only to tip their lives askew. Such

Biography
I grew up in Los Angeles, California during those heady days when kids could still trick-or-treat outside instead of walking around from store to store inside the sterile safety of shopping malls. My friends and I could run and play without any thought of being shot or kidnapped leaving riderless skateboards spinning their lonely wheels.

Though I grew up in a safe environment, the nightmar
