The objective of this book was to provide a recounting of a project to build as accurately as possible a Phoenician type merchant vessel, then sail it on a route clockwise around Africa. This would represent an attempt to demonstrate the the account written by Herodotus in around 450 BCE of a passed down tale from Phoenician sailors of their experience in sailing around Africa on the commission of Pharaoh Necho II
