I really enjoyed this book by Isabelle Goddard. I’ve read a few of her books and she manages to combine her obvious love of period and history with a very entertaining plot and characters. The result is a highly enjoyable historical romance, well written and very competently researched. I love historical books and I can just picture life in the Regency period through Isabelle’s heart-warming story. The chemistry between Nell and Gabriel is great and we love the fact that they've both got issues ...more

The premise of this story intrigued me, but it was just an ok read. I was expecting more intrigue or mystery surrounding her parentage, but it kinda fell flat. I would have liked more of an ending. Even if it was just an epilogue to clear up the questions that are unanswered. It was clean as to language, but had more sexual details than I would like to read-- but not steamy like some novels.

I was born into an army family and most of my childhood was spent moving from school to school, including periods of living in Egypt and Germany. Some schools I loved and some I hated, so it wasn't too surprising that I left before completing my examinations.

I became a secretary but realised almost immediately that the role of handmaiden simply wasn't for me. Escape beckoned when I landed a job wi
