<default-description>When a mischievous spirit grants loser Johnny Devlin's wish for someone else's life, luthier Max Trader wakes up in Johnny's body, surrounded by the emotionally vacant shambles Johnny has left behind, bankrupt and farther down in the world than he has ever imagined being. Jarred from his complacent, self-contained path, Max has only his inner resources for both emotional and financial support. He wants his life back, but, as he struggles for it, he realizes that he will no longer be satisfied with things as they were. Fans of de Lint's previous work will enjoy this gently didactic story set in the fictional town of Newford's thirtysomethingish community of arty waifs and folk musicians.

"The [Newford] books have all been written in such a way that you should be able to pick up any one and get a full and complete story. However, characters do reoccur, off center stage as it were, and their stories do follow a sequence."</default-description>

The book is about a luthier, whose mind is put in the body of a real loser. The book demonstrates how...more...

very engrossing book and great story. Almost reminds me of Stephen King with the theme and writing. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is I thought it got a bit hokey at the end, but not enough to ruin the story itself. I want to read more from this author!
