Joan has done a beautiful job of taking us back to the nativity story and filling in the gaps between the scripture verses. While remaining true to God's Word, she imaginatively captures the personalities of Mary, Joseph, their parents, Herod, the shepherds, and others, and introduces real human responses to this most amazing of all historic events.

I give a book 5 stars if it keeps me thinking about the story for days after. Joan brought humor and thought provoking ideas to the most eventful event in history, yet kept to the scriptures. Made the usual Christmas more alive and actually human.. Definitely worth a second read and not necessarily just at Christmas time.
