4.5 I thought this was so very good! Honestly this is a book that will take you on an emotional roller coaster. This takes place in I believe 67' when Cara is a young girl. I didn't pick up an age but around 8th or 9th grade. Right away from chapter one you have one tragedy or drama after the next. It doesn't let up until around 34%. I just wanted to reach through the book and hug Cara. How much can one person endure? Then things pick up and look sunny only to have it all ripped away again! It ...more

Recommends it for: everyone YA and older
This is an amazing book!! I knew it would be as soon as I read the blurb on the back of the book.

Julia Rachel Barrett has created and brought to life a phenomenal cast of characters in this emotional read. I even liked the villain Micah. But I do believe that was the point for his part in this story.

Cara's life has been one bad thing after another. Abusive men, a mother who doesn't seem to love her, no real friends. I instantly loved her and HAD to follow her every move. I could hear myself ask

Cara is complicated to say the least and in a horrid situation. She was abused by her neighboor, mistreated by her parents, and throughout the book every man seemed to be out to hurt her. She pulled at my heart strings and more than once I shed tears for such a strong character. Ms. Barrett did an amazing job writing her.

Now for the 4 star rating instead of five. Two characters – Micah and Jerry. They were well written. The entire sequence wi

In every life at one time or another a person needs a hero, a savior or just someone to hear their cries and call for help. Sometimes that help arrives in time and sometimes it comes a little late. But whenever it comes it is always with welcome relief.

Cara is a young, awkward sixth grade girl who is sheltered and ignorant of the ways of the world but most importantly about the changes that occurring within her own body. She becomes the perfect prey for the perfect predator...her father's law pa

Monica's Review

Come Back to Me by Julia Rachel Barrett is, what can I say, I am at a loss for words. This novel of Cara is so intense, so life devastating, that I wonder how she could still keep on going. Cara’s had no childhood—it basically consisted of torture and unpleasantness. She did what she could to keep away from everyone which made it worse for her with her parents. How could Cara keep trusting men after everything she has gone through and find anyone that she could love or love her b

Come Back To Me

This book was not what I thought it was going to be, but in a good way. After reading just a few chapters, my heart was racing from being sympathetic and upset for Car a. Then, I started to fell more realistic towards the novel in asking myself, "how can do many ducked up things happen to just one person before the age of 21?" In the end, I came to the conclusion that it could and this book is a great example for, not just Cara's story, but for many other young girls. I enjoyed ho

Oh my goodness...I thought I was going to die reading this book. I had to stop reading it several times because I felt like I would be ill. Normally, it takes no more than 2 days for me to complete a book however, I simply could not handle everything at once and finishing it took me nearly a week.. What a bone-chilling, heart-breaking, tear-inducing story. I cried until my eyes were sore. I was sick to my stomach more often than not and was without a doubt, on edge the entire time. It seemed as ...more

I won this book from a Goodreads/First reads giveaway

I'd like to start by saying this book is not for the faint of heart. This has a very sensitive issue of molestration.

This is a book you will cry over and find yourself cheering Cara on next. It follows Cara through her life and you can see how this tragedy has messed up her life in soooo many ways. I'm finding it hard to say much about the story because I don't want to give it away for the next person. Ca

The story of a fragile teenage Cara, evolving through a series of abusive relationships into a strong willed and intent woman. This book had me from the first chapter. A story of survival, I will never forget. Every woman has their James... but does every woman have the strength to survive what Cara does before she can settle into her happy ending?

Received as a Goodreads First Reads giveaway, I highly recommend this title. With the warm weather arriving, a perfect "lounge in the sun" read. Come Back To Me by Julia Rachel Barrett

Come Back To Me was Wow! Read Read Read

Beautiful story but the most heartbreaking.
After I started reading this book, I almost stopped immediately. But being who I am, I couldn't stop myself. Because once I get sucked into a strong storyline such as this one, it's impossible to tear myself from it; especially when the book is so emotionally tense it gets. Just to find out if the main character gets their chance of happiness after everything they went through. Extremely emotional and devastating

An emotional read! And I mean tons of emotions all over the place!all the crap that Cara went through,I would have been in the loonybin. James, was her hero and loved her but things got pretty hectic for Cara after the rape and she fled town.James was at a loss at what to do without her.He didn't know if going after her was the right thing to do.Things just get worse for Cara.

Very emotional read...this is one you just have to experience on your own.I highly recommend this you read it.Great job J

Wow I feel like I have been on a horrible emotional rollercoaster of a ride with this book. There is so much bad in Cara's world I can't even believe it just keeps coming over and worse. It is heartbreaking all that she goes thru in this book. I was so angry at her parents at the beginning especially her mother, hard to believe a mother could be so awful. Of course the setting being 1971 might have had something to do with reactions of people. Dr James Mackie is a beautiful soul and a wonder to ...more

I feel this story is well worth the read, but it is difficult. The characters are quite believable and I quickly came to care about Cara and felt the pain of her many losses. I felt it so strongly that at one point I did something I have never done before and peeked at the last page to make sure that the ending was what I wanted, then put it away and switched to lighter reading material. A week and several "fluff" romances later I was ready to finish Cara's journey. I'm glad that I did. I have ...more

This book was an emotional roller coaster that keeps you on your toes all the way til the end! Cara's life is, to put it simply, a mess. She goes through so much for someone so young, but it makes her such a good, strong willed person! To see her struggles, her growth, and the close of this book was incredibly satisfying, but at the same time left me wanting more. I wish we had gotten a bit more from the ending, but I'm still pleased with it.

This was a heartwrenching story that had me crying alot. The heartache, loss of innocence, loss os self and everything else that Cara had to face is truely crushing. The fact that she was able to continue is a testament to the character that she has. This story touches on a lot of disturbing situations, the author did a wonderful job at writing about these situations and in how they are dealt with.

its a good thing I like roller coasters......because this book was one HUGE twisting ride. I was looking for something different to read and I found it. You will fall in love with Cara (the toughest chick EVER) and feel such compassion and awe for the woman she becomes. James will make you believe in true love..... (I however fell for Jerry) This book is a definite must read!

Absolutely phenomenal! Cara's tragedy start in childhood and just gets worse from there. She goe's through what no one person should ever have to face and then to have her parents and others not believe her. She found her savior in James and I was so glad when they reconnected at the end. At least she had her happy ending. One f the best books I have ever read!

Loved, Loved, LOVED this story. It's complex and the characters are endearing. Definitely NOT a soppy romance. The whole way through I was cheering for Cara.

The only criticism I have and the story itself more than made up for it was the poor editing, but as I said, I was happy to forgive it as the story was wonderful.
