When Shadow, a half vampire/half human must train a group of young humans with special abilities to be part of his team of heroes that will save the world, he is faced with a task far more monumental than he could have imagined! Face it, he is a super hero, a loner, not a babysitter, but the oracle has spoken, his destiny and the fate of the world will be in the hands of ten children who can’t quite seem to get along. Will he be able to pull them together as a team or will evil win out? The ...more

The Descending Darkness is the debut novel by Michael Chulsky. When I started reading this I wasn’t sure what to expect. I haven’t read an actual Young Adult novel in quite some time, so it took a little bit of getting used to again. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, and for being a debut novel it was well written and transitioned well from character to character. The imagery was wonderful and there were some twists and turns that I honestly didn’t see coming.

While I was completely in love with

Shadow is a dhampir- half human/half vampire. He is also on a mission. He needs to round up other teenagers with similar but different powers and train them to fight. They must go to Draconia Isle to try and stop whoever is trying to steal the Dragon's Eye. He runs into many challenges on his missions to find all the teenagers. Once he has them all, they begin training. At first, everyone living together is rough. They argue, and tease, and get on each others nerves as they are acclimating to th

What an intriguing read! I loved the synopsis and found myself literally laughing out loud at some of the quips and references in the story. I’m not a huge fantasy lover but this was just FUN! I enjoyed the different characters and really thought that Michael Chulsky did a good job at having so many characters without it seeming bogged down. Everyone has their special abilities and characteristics that makes them sit apart from the teenagers in the story beside them.

What I did want was a little

Shadow is a dhampir, half-human and half-vampire. Normally, he is a superhero-esque character lurking the shadows and protecting mankind against the demons they don’t even know are there. After an oracle’s reading, he is given a mission to save the world, but first he must gather his team. He locates and trains ten young humans, each with special abilities that will assist in the coming battle. Will they learn to work as a team? Wi

I love superhero books and was excited to read this book but I found it to be a but stilted and awkward to read. Shadow the main character seems to often think aloud to himself in order to explain what's going on rather than having it described as part of the story. Also during the recruitment of the various teens with superhuman powers it doesn't seem realistic, it happens too quickly and the teens just seem to decide to trust Shadow very quickly with little convincing. There is a wide variety ...more

Shadow is a seventeen year old dhampir who has been protecting humans from the demons they didn’t know existed. He is use to being a loner and not worrying about anybody else. But all that changes when an oracle’s reading tells him he needs to save the world and gather special teenagers with powers who can help him. After he locates the ten teenagers, he starts to train them for the upcoming battle. But can Shadow get them to work as a team or will all their differences get in the way of saving ...more

This book’s premise is absolutely amazing. The characters are all teens except for Shadow and Michael has captured their persona’s beautiful. I could see teen complications. It’s a x-men type of novel with Shadow, half vampire – half human, is their leader. The teens all have abilities that they must use to save the world from evil.

I really loved the story line of it and I read just to find out how it ended. Michael didn’t disappoint.

Now for what I didn’t like and I know I’m bickering about this

Shadow - a half-vampire has been charged with bringing together a group of teens with special abilities to fight an evil that is descending on the world.

The evil turns out to be Maedera - a deliciously drawn villain who is equally concerned with ruling the earth and finding the perfect pair of shoes.

A fun read for the young teen reader.
