it was very interesting - well written, or rather recounted.
i liked the fact it extensively used letters written by the people involved and - i had so no idea about how deep the rift between the regent ("prinny") and his wife was - i get the impression that after the wedding they didn't ever really talk to each other. and even though caroline surely did not act impeccably to say the least i still think if the prince had acted differently, matters would not have deteriorated that much. and even...more

I got the book when we visited the Brighton Pavillion last summer. Caroline was the wife of George Prince of Wales who had the pavillion built and Charlotte was their daughter. The marriage lasted less than a year. Plowden used contemporary documents to research the lives of these two independent women. Very interesting and well written!
It says a lot for Ploweden that although I already knew most of the facts she recounted, she told Caroline and Charlotte's story in such a gripping way that I found it hard to put the book down. A wonderful introduction to these fascinating Princesses, the focus is more on Charlotte than Caroline. Highly recommended.
