A great, quick read. This is the first manga series I have ever read (thanks to an NPR review of Comicon), and I have been so charmed with the whole experience. I love shojo for its complexity and for the overwhelming number of characters and character relationships. I have also decided I am partial to a particular manga drawing style. I have no idea what you would call that, but I like clean lines as opposed to sketchy action stills.

Yes! Epic! Epic! This volume was smexy! Dude, I was nearly shitting pickles there for a moment because the last volume ended on a very sad note. It was so sad I tasted emo in my mouth. [[Enter Flashback!]]*In the Corner of Woe cutting herself with a Spork whilst blubbering her eyes out*[[End Flashback!]] Yeah... it was not pretty. But this one! Dude, this one was so much better. Mind you, there were still a lot of parts that makes you want to run into traffic but it was necessary to get the good...more
Oh the angst! This volumes begins with Kyo expounding on his feelings regarding Kyoko's death. He's convinced that Tohru's mother hates him and can't forgive himself. It is for that reason that he disappeared into the mountains with Shisou in the months before he met Tohru. There's some great pages with Tohru tearfully declaring that she doesn't care and that she still loves Kyo. Kyo, ever Mr. Tactful, ends the discussion with "I'm disillusioned."

We start back where we left off, which is unusual for this manga. Kyo finishes his story about his childhood friendship with Tohru's mother. He tells more about her death and how he couldn't deal with the grief. He admits he moved on by blaming everything on Yuki. It's unclear to me whether Yuki overhears this or not. He sees them talking, but I could never decide if he could hear them. After he's done with his story, Tohru tells him she loves him. Being Kyo, he says the wrong thing and she runs...more
AWESOME confrontation between Yuki and Kyou, and of course the Akito/Tohru interaction is heartbreaking. You get a sense of Akito being a really human being, which is a nice way of rounding out her character (though it comes a little late, given how totally evil she's been throughout the series).
I love Kyou x Tohru, but their relationship is so focused on emo now that it's lost a lot of what made it so strong (the way their personalities clashed and complimented each other is seriously toned dow...more

I'm about 72% certain I read this volume of Fruits Basket when it first came out at the end of 2008, but since it had been nearly 2 years, I decided I should probably re-read it before starting volumes 22 and 23. And I'm glad I did - it was a good refresher for what was happening in the story line, and the climactic set up for the resolution of the series. I love Tohru, of course, and though she was hurt, I knew it wouldn't be serious. The fight between Kyo and Yuki had been building for years,...more
Wow, that was amazing.
The climax of the whole Tohru-Kyo relationship. I can't believe the things he revealed, but Tohru forgave him anyway and he- did that!
I was so sad and then with Akito, (view spoiler). I don't want to say anymore on the subject because it has so many spoilers and I hate hiding a review just because I spilled some secrets.
Though in the end I was happy for Yuki, it felt wrong. That happy-e...more

Another fantastic volume from the Fruits Basket manga as this series draws to a close *sad face*. It's hard to review this without giving away what goes on in the volume so I'm just going to stick with what is on the back of the cover.
Tohru tells Kyo how she feels about him but you'll have to read it to find out how he reacts. He reveals exactly why he disappeared for so long and by George, it's an engrossing read. The things that have happened in this volume make me wonder exactly how it's all...more

WARNING: THIS REVIEW CONTAINS TOPICS THAT ARE SPOILERS. IF YOU HAVE NOT READ UP TO THIS VOLUME, THEN YOU MOST LIKELY SHOULDN'T READ THIS REVIEW, but hey, I won't stop you if you want to read it.
Just remember, you have been properly warned.
In all caps, I might add.
It's official. I love Akito. I don't care what anyone else thinks, Akito's story just really got to me more than any other characters story. Momiji came in second, if anyone was wondering.
I blame Akito's parents for the problems Akito...more

This is close to the end of the series. It’s a ‘big stuff’ happens in it so the review will be short not to spoil things. Let’s call it the volume of changing relationships. Yuki is finally realizing that he feels something for Machi and needs to tell her. Tohru and Kyo’s relationship comes to a head and well naturally blows up.
On the non-love side, Kyo and Yuki’s relationship changes as they explore their animosity. Kyo admits to unfairly blaming Yuki for his failure to save Tohru’s mother and...more

OMG!I mean it litterally! This volume of Fruits Basket is full of shocking stuff, and also some emotional griefs at the beginning.I try not to cry *sniffles*.But i can't!Let's just say that Fruits Basket is the most awesome & romantic manga you will ever see!The fact that something seriously big happens in this manga that will change Kyo & Torhu's relationship makes it even more emotional. Also there are very few jokes on this one that will make you laugh. And there is also Yuki & Machi'...more
I'm a lot calmer then I thought I'd be at the end of this one. There were so many moments that got my heart racing in a I'm-much-too-emotionally-invested-in-fictional-characters!-Do-I-have-a-problem? sort of way. All cards are on the table and I'm wonder just how much more drama can possibly transpire.
Also where is Ritsu? We haven't seen him for ages. I don't think he's ever going coming back around to say hello again. Poor thing, all left out from this kerfuffle... or maybe he's just lucky?

I really like this series and will be sad to see it conclude in 2009 but I'm finding it too difficult to distinguish characters from the artwork and this book seemed to start in the middle of something that made me feel as though I had missed something critical. It almost felt rushed to me as Kyo and Tohru declare their feelings as does Yuki. Not necessarily to others but to themselves. It was interesting but not as satisfying as I would have liked.
What did I say in my previous review?
I knew it.
I was totally terrified that like, 3 different characters were all going to die!
But what I was right about was the shippiness. :)
It worked out just like I predicted.
Yuki and Manabe mention that Yuki's relationship with Tohru is "like a mother". I had forgotten that he felt that way (or chosen to ignore it), but being reminded, it all just fits.
I JUST LOVE IT ALL SO MUCH

Possibly the best Furuba volume. Ever. And that's saying something. I really hated to put it down.
EVERYTHING HAPPENED! *pantpant* Except it's still a cliffhanger of the worst sort - things seem to be okay... but are they really? There are still issues to sort out, still things to happen, still characters to explore... I eagerly await the 22nd volume.

This volume in the series ends up showing a more human side of Akito, which was pretty enjoyable. Underneath her multiple facades, she's just a lonely, needy little girl, and it's easy to understand her. Tohru went on being predictably herself, and Saki and Arisa were very funny. And the story is rounded out with the cute little Yuki-and-Machi romance.
I found Kyo's relationship with Kyoko to be the weakest link in this series. I like the added depth, but at the same time it also felt the least believable (as if people turning into zodiac animals when hugged was all that believable to begin with...) of all the connections (like a last minute addition to increase the drama).

I really loved this series. The characters are all unforgettable and I loved each one of them. This series can be really emotional too and really funny at times. I'm a little disappointed though that this series had ended. It also made me cry and gets me really emotional, especially towards the end.

A lot of character growth in this volume, especially Akito. I'm really happy that Takaya is allowing Akito to grow into a likable character rather than being such a hateful character like in the beginning. Another very good volume in the series!

“I wish I could've lived my life without making any wrong turns. But that's impossible. A path like that doesn't exist. We fail. We trip. We get lost. We make mistakes. And little by little, one step at a time, we push forward. It's all we can do. On our own two feet.”
