From the PFS Book Club...

What I Liked: Rawn continues to deliver what she does best: a mixture of great characters with opposing motivations and lots of action and intrigue. The plot moves rather quickly, bouncing back and forth between characters, and gives a grand scope that most fantasy novels can't amount to. The world-building aspects of the previous books definitely help here.

The other main strength is that Rawn isn't afraid of killing off characters, and for a fantasy novel, she does quit...more

I must say this one was pretty engrossing. A good feeling that almost matched up to the first trilogy. It's the middle book of a trilogy though so there's not much going on in terms what's really behind the reason of the war. It's more like a regroup and lull before the storm.

The pacing is great and although there's a lot of perspective jumps, did not find it confusing in the least. What I find rather remarkable is that despite having so many characters in the spotlight, and all over the world,...more

I kept reading because I've invested so much time in this entire series, but I started losing track of who was who! The characters keep getting named after previous characters, or versions of previous characters, and I lost track of many of them. I could tell whose "side" they were on but lost mental pics of many of the characters. The story dragged in parts.

I enjoyed these when I was a pre-teen, but remember them being pretty trashy. Despite that, I read the entire series in quick succession after being recommended them by a friend, and pretty quickly forgot everything about them, so they're definitely not all that memorable.

More rough sledding for the natives of the Principalities. Irrational son thrust into leadership and does no better than his prior characterization would have you believe. The main weakness of this trilogy is the Completely Stereotypically Irrational Invaders.

These books are all very good, in general. There are no real break through or any thing I would call out as being particularly good or inventive on the authors side, but the writing is done in a way that allows you to be pulled into the world.

One weakness of this author, is the frequent sex scenes, it seems for this author a recurring theme in her books is sex, sexual tension and sexuality in general are only a tool for manipulation and control. Normally this would not bug me too much however it...more

...my BFF and I were so excited that the second book was already out and that we didn't have to wait. She was just as thrilled with this installment, though I was just a tad less so...

It is a toss up for me on the best epic fantasy series. I think my favorites would be Rawn, Tolkien, Williams & Eddings but had to follow my heart and say this series was the best for me.

Another great fantasy book. New characters that are as intriguing as the others. Which is good, 'cause the old characters keep dieing...

The very first fantasy/sci fi story I ever read. Unforgettable, addicting and amazing.

This book is the second in the Dragon Star Trilogy, taking place after the Dragon Prince Trilogy again it starts out to be a very politically oriented story line but turns into a great saga. The story keep your attention and takes you into a world of High Princes, Sunrunner magick and evil sorcery. It is a good read for any dragon and fantacy lover.

Kept me up til 2:30.

Cast of thousands (at least feels like it sometimes), can get confusing but they keep moving and so does the story and action, specially for the second book of the second trilogy. Doesn't srffer the 'Empire Strikes Back' sag. Melanie can be ruthless.

The second book picks up right where the first leaves off and it keeps on going straight to the end.

I think Pol starts to get slightly less annoying in this and the last book. The other characters definitely keep me reading these books.

The storyline is good, though there are quite a few adult themes that I don't know that I would be comfortable my daughter reading. This whole series is one that I recommend parent's read before letting their children do so.

Still very good...now instead of fighting political fights within, there is an outside, very ominous, dark-magic-filled threat. Dragons, desert, magic, good vs. evil. It's all here.

I love this series. The intricacies of the politics and plots get you totally immersed. I've read the whole series at least twice.

This one is pretty confusing because there's so much going on. It's worth the long read though.
