This turned out to be a very interesting read, full of enlightening research based on court cases heavily supported by quotes from the court minutes.

I read this book because I am interested in the crime & punishment aspects of life at sea in the age of sail, and especially in the proceedings of courts martial trying both officers and ratings, and this book had been recommended to me.

The book was very enlightening in this regard. I also appreciated the contextualisation of the prosecution of
Interesting and valuable, but he has a pet theory and never admits that his evidence might support other conclusions.
