Sugar and spice and murderous vice.
That’s what pageants are made of…

Normally Melanie Cooper and Angie DeLaura wouldn’t be caught dead at a beauty pageant, but when Mel’s mom asks them to provide cupcakes for the seventy-fifth annual Sweet Tiara contest as a favor for her best friend, they can’t say no. Plus, between cooking up a daily display for the three-day event and sp

Melanie Cooper and Angie DeLaura are back in this sixth cupcake mystery and their cupcakes are donning tiaras! As a favor to her mom Mel agrees to provide cupcakes for the seventy-fifth annual Sweet Tiara Beauty Pageant. It is great publicity for Fairy Tale Cupcakes and when their young friend Lupe decides to enter the pageant Mel’s mother is smiling ear to ear. She takes Lupe under her wing to help her prepare for the competition.

Not everyone is thrilled with this new face on the pageant circui

The feels near the end, concerning Mel and Joe. Just got to say, are you serious book? Really how could you? Fine, make it interesting and wanting me to read the next book why don't you.

Anyway Mel, Angie and co find themselves with their cupcakes at a beauty pageant.

Wow, almost caught up with this series. And loving every moment with these characters. In this, I think the ones that shine are Tate and especially Marty. You could tell here the character development really showed. Even Olivia was

Much to Mel’s dismay, Fairytale Cupcakes has gotten roped into providing cupcakes for the Sweet Tiara pageant. But when their friend Lupe is accused of murdering the head judge after a very public fight with the woman on the first day, Mel and Angie must figure out whose outward beauty is hiding a very ugly heart.

I hadn’t planned to pick up this book so fast, but after the cliffhanger that ended the previous book, I had to know what was going to happen next. We get those updates early on in the

SUGAR AND ICED by Jenn Mckinlay Book 6 in the Cupcake Bakery Mystery series.

To say I love this series would be an understatement. It is by far my favorite
cozy mystery series.

Jenn McKinlay has the gang from Fairy Tale Cupcakes taking on a beauty pageant in this story. Not only are they building beautiful cupcake towers to display at the pageant, they’re baking the cupcakes that the contestants themselves invent. On top of that, they are there for their young friend Lupe who enters the pageant to

I really enjoy this series and have been looking forward to this installment as the last one left you hanging on the relationship between Mel and Joe. I find the books delightful and especially enjoy the cupcake recipes. This latest installment has Mel and Angie baking for a beauty pageant(scholarship contest). The evil judge gets hers and deservedly so. There is also an underlying mystery that doesn't play out until the last chapter that is a grabber! I also didn't figure out the killer though ...more

Really enjoy reading Jenn McKinlay's books, there always very fun to read and the cast of characters are always a lot of fun to spend some time with.

This is the sixth book, in the Cupcake Bakery mystery series, and its a great book in the series. The story was a lot fun to read. I've never been a big fan of beauty pageants, so it was really interesting to see the characters in that environment. In each book, there is a character that stands out to me as my favorite, and in this one, it was Mart

I thought "Sugar and Iced" by Jenn McKinlay was already a good story, but the fact that she added an Oasis song to the story line just made this a great book (I'm completely obsessed with Oasis)!!! She is now officially one of my favorite authors!! Seriously, I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next in the series. I just want Mel and Joe to work everything out and be happy!

This a truly enjoyable new read in the Cupcake Bakery Mystery Series. This is number Six and it seems the characters are fully developed. The interaction of them is fun, pleasant and at times intense. This one is dealing with the cut throat world of pageants. The 75th Sweet Tiara contest is going to have a cupcake creation contest as well as your normal talent, bathing suit, and evening gown events. Melanie (Mel) and Angi

First off, I really like this series and think Jenn McKinlay is The Bomb when it comes to writing cozies. She writes great characters and weaves a good mystery. Was this my favorite in this series? No. It's a 3.5 star read, but based on the merits I just stated I'm giving it 4 here on GR. The setting isn't ideal. I don't much care for "beauty pageants". I know many people love them, and I'm glad they do. I don't. Don't care for the whole idea behind most of them. The thought that a person's ...more

Rating: 4.5 Stars

Another incredible book in the Cupcake Bakery mystery series! I just adore all of the characters in these books and as they evolve I find myself loving them more and more. This novel had me guessing all the way till the very end, trying to figure out who the murderer was. The only reason I'm giving this book 4.5 stars is because of the bizarre love triangle Mel endures throughout the novel. It wasn't so much the men that bothered me it was Mel's behavior. She couldn't commit to

This is one of my all time favorite cozy mystery series. Although in this installment I have to say I am so upset with the ending that I want to read the next one right now but I have to wait as I have a few in front of it. Jenn really left us with a big cliff hanger. I felt the same as Mel did as I am not a beauty pageant type but I like where this one went. Again Jenn had me stumped on who did the killing until the end of the book. I liked the side stories of Tate & Angie, Lupe & Oz ...more

I love Jenn McKinlay and I love this series, but this was NOT one of my favorite books by her. It got three stars.

The only reason I gave this book three stars was because I loved the mystery. As always, it had a lot of good action scenes and it was hard to figure out who did it. However, this love story is getting so annoying and heartbreaking. I hope it gets better in the next book because I'm starting to get annoyed with some of the characters (because of their awful decisions when it comes t

I've been waiting a long time, it seems to me anyway, for this book. And now I've read it too fast and am done with it. If only Jenn McKinlay could publish the stories as fast as I'm reading them. I just love the Cupcake Bakery mysteries. I've read lots of cozy mysteries, but this series is the best. Great characters, good mysteries, easy-to-read writing, and just plain enjoyable. Can't wait for the next installment to see what's happening next with the Cupcake girls, their families, and ...more

Fun and easy to read cozy crime drama. I like that Mel is aware of the fact that the number of corpses that turn up in her vicinity is not normal, and the continuing relationship to-ing and fro-ing isn't annoying me yet. The mysteries in these are varied enough that I don't get bored - even if I do often have my suspicions about the culprits!

Have read all the others in the series - and I look forward to the next that will deal with the cliffhanger at the end of this one. Her characters are two dimensional and I enjoy how they interact with each other. Great read!
Melissa
I love these Cupcake mysteries! The characters are so engaging. Yeah, the mystery is really light-weight...fluffy...but the characters make the book. Love the cliff-hanger at the end. I'm sad I will have to wait for the next one to come out.

More like 4.25.

But I'm honestly getting a little annoyed at Mel at times. But I enjoyed how the guys played along with it, calling themselves by numbers now.

Great ending. I'll definitely need to read the next one.

Not the best in this series by a long shot. Some of that is personal dislike of the setting, but the ending was dumb too.

Not the best installment in the series. The mystery (the resolution of which was simplistic) was secondary to Mel's and Angie's personal lives. I really hope the next book is better.

Jenn McKinlay returns to the Cupcake Bakery series with her latest book, Sugar and Iced. This title centers around the world of pageants and the lengths participants are willing to go to win. McKinlay brings back the duo of Mel and Angie from the Fairy Tale Cupcake shop and puts them right in the middle of the spectacle and elegance of the Sweet Tiara pageant. With cupcake displays, a cupcake creation contest, a dead judge and a contestant they once thought was a boy, this is going to be an ...more

Every rhombus is a parallelogram, and a rhombus with right angles is a square. Let me preface this review with stating that I knew a few things about this book before starting my read.

Having said that, the beauty pageant setting didn't bother me. In fact, it felt like it could have been any setting, but McKinlay chose that setting as her back drop. For all I know, she planned it out that way for the sake of Oz and Lupe. And maybe it was used as a springboard for the relationship between Olivia w

Melanie Cooper and Angie DeLaura are not usually fans of beauty pageants. In fact, they they think they are demeaning to women, but they can't help but fill a request when Mel's mom asks them to cater cupcakes for the 75th annual Sweet Tiara Contest in Scottsdale, Arizona. The 3-day event seems like a great way to market their shop, Fairy Tale Cupcakes. It also doesn't help that a good friend of one of their employees has entered the contest in the hopes of getting the scholarship. Lupe Guzman ...more

Finally, after two and one half years of having this book on my I Want to Read list; I’ve read it. This is a murder, mystery based around Melanie Cooper & Angie DeLaura and their signature cupcake business.
