Esk No, it's actualy some kind of prequel. But when Jemisin writed the Dreamblood after this, she changed a little bit some things about the Gatherers.

Interesting enough, but doesn't really add to the main stories.

This short story beautifully wove the world building and characters and I was so inspired after reading it. It's masterful. I want to read the rest of the series now.

I just read The Narcomancer story and it’s really amazing!
I have the book „Epic: Legends of Fantasy“, which includes it, from two years. I have read most of the stories there, but not this one, because I wanted to have something unread from the Dreamblood world and I wanted to know that I can go back to this world for something new, something unknown.
So, after two years, yesterdayI just decided that the moment has come and that I can’t wait anymore.
And it was worth the wait. The very same way a

I've had Jemisin's Inheritance series on my to-read list for years now, and I finally managed to track down a used copy of the second book a couple of months ago, but this story got to me first. It's a precursor to her Dreamblood series, the first novel of which, The Killing Moon, was published in 2012. It's a world where dream magic exists, can kill, heal, etc. The main character is a priest named Cet who is tasked with bringing peace to a village plagued by a narcomancer, a magician with the p ...more

Wifely politics and strange religions are examined closely in this story. And, while it is written just fine, I just...didn't like it. It's just my personal taste, and it wasn't satisfied. Which is WEIRD, because it has some elements I'm totally into, like literal sexual healing and gender role refdefinitions. I listened to this story twice, and I'm afraid my opinion has not changed.

I think plenty of other readers will love this piece. Just not me.

A short story going back to Jemisin's world of Gujaareh where people are euthanized towards the end of their life and the humours in dreams access and free the soul. This is a short story essentially about a village feud about 'which wife will be in charge' and some brigands terrorising the village. It's only okay, there are some gender politics at play but nothing particularly original or interesting.

Quite forgettable.
