I've never laughed so hard in my life!
John Barrowman certainly has some stories to tell about his life growing up and his adventures into stage and screen. The fact that he is so open about everything makes the book all the more enjoyable!
He’s pretty and talented and he knows it! I hope he never changes!
Read this book. You won’t be disappointed!

Reasons to listen to John Barrowman read his autobiography:
He laughs.
He sings.
He does funny voices.
He does his own Scottish accent.
He gets emotional.
It's a very anecdotal book, and it's lovely to hear him tell these stories himself. The audio book is abridged and I do plan to read the complete hard copy version, but this reading is delightful.

John Barrowman's a hoot. Sure it may have a touch of self-aggrandizement, but so does my blog. That's the balance between autobiography and regular biography - one-perspective best-light autobiography, or dry, impersonal 3rd party bio. Which would I rather? The one with the most life.
John's a pleasure to listen to (which is why I got the audiobook, even though it was abridged), and I sensed a wonderful concern for his family. Even though he may have highlighted the best times, and...more

all musical theater fans, and everyone who wants a positive read about an extraordinary man
What can you say about John Barrowman that he doesn't say himself? Nothing. The man is shameless - but in the best possible way ever.
For those of you not familiar with John Barrowman, he is a Broadway musical star, a TV star, a frequent talk show guest (in the UK) and an all around amazing talent. His autobiography reads like a list of "fun things you should try". Really. I think he's embraced every aspect of his field and tried to do each and every one of them well.

JB fans, naturally.
John Barrowman, how are you so awesome? It surprises no one that I had mad love for this book. It was extraordinarily funny in many places. He has a great sense of humor as well as a great ability to laugh at himself - I wager that most people, let alone famous people, would not tell some of the embarrassing stories that he had no problem sharing. It was dishy, gossipy, with mentions of backstage shenanigans at Who and Torchwood, but it was also introspective without being navel-gazey. A hard li...more

A fast, fun read. Fans of Barrowman and/or Captain Jack will enjoy this book. Co-written with his sister, the book still reads like Barrowman recounting his industry highs and lows with a hint of gossip here and there. He names each chapter after one of his favorite showtunes, and his anecdotes tumble into tangents before returning back to his main tales. He mostly takes the high road sharing his life and acting experiences, although he inadvertently or accidentally outs Kevin Spacey. Whovians c...more

I didn't want to finish this book---I was having too much fun looking forward to the different stories. But I had to, since I was borrowing it from someone and needed to give it back to her in a few days ;)
I rarely read auto/biographies, but this was a fun one. He does skip around a lot in the narrative...which was both good and bad. I loved hearing little bits tossed randomly in, but would also have loved more focus on certain times/people for longer periods.

Seriously, this book was incredible. I feel like I would get along with John Barrowman if I ever met him- and reading this book was simply a pleasure. It has humor, insight, it can be poignant and witty. Even if you're not a fan of Doctor Who and Torchwood or Broadway and the West End (and I am a fan of all of the above) this book is worth picking up and reading. After all, biographies always make the best reads.

anyone who's the slightest bit familiar with John Barrowman and/or his work.
An absoulte delight! Packed with good humor, a little drama, and a smattering of subtle, strateigically-placed life lessons. A must read, and not just for Barrowman fans.
Well written and highly entertaining, I couldn't put it down.

any fan of Barrowman, either in the West End or as Captain Jack
I disagree with this coming under the "gay-fiction" genre. For one, it's an autobiography. 'Nuff said. And there's so much more to John Barrowman than him being gay. For a start, his sense of humour, which is one of the many things I love about his characters in Doctor Who and Torchwood, makes "Anything Goes" an excellent read. He deserves all his success because it hasn't changed him at all. He's obviously a down-to-earth, loving and pretty damn funny guy- and an excellent p...more

I absolutely, totally, and completely love John Barrowman and have since I first saw him as Captain Jack on Doctor Who. He's gorgeous, multi-talented, genuinely a nice guy, intelligent...what's not to love? Getting his autobiography was a total no-brainer and, as I expected, I absolutely loved it. Like him, it's very down-to-earth, straightforward, and there's lots of humor and witty remarks. As a fan of musical theatre, it's great to hear about things from a performer's point of view and se...more

Not the best writing ever, but not bad either. A very conversational tale of an interesting life (so far...)

I loved reading about John's life in his own words. The man has had an unbelievable, nearly fairytale life! Not without its bumps in the road, of course. You can really hear his voice as if he's speaking to you personally! I liked getting it signed by him and his sister too :) And if you're a Barrowman fan, you will enjoy the pictures inside.

First time I've read an autobiography and I really loved the structure of this one, with the little foot notes at the bottom of most pages, with little quirky comments in relations to something written in the main text.

This was an entertaining, quick read. Lots of name dropping and naughtiness, but that's to be expected with John Barrowman. I had a good time reading this and would recommend it to any JB fans.

Good, sort-of-clean fun.
This book reads like I imagine a long, somewhat tipsy conversation over a marathon evening with John would go. It's a little all over the place, being organized thematically rather than chronologically.
Cheeky, brash, fun, and completely honest about being happy with his life, which is pretty darned good. John is a natural storyteller. A ripping set of yarns about a guy who is clearly in love with his life and his work.
