It's tough to get through if you don't know the currents and writers in 19th and 20th century Russian literature--though Bill Keach's annotations and glossaries are helpful. Trotsky's argument against the "Prolekult" and proponents of "proletarian literature" after the Russian Revolution is brilliant.
