Fantastic book spanning countries from A to Z and including history synopsis, cultural IQ, government overview, decision making, equality analysis, dress, introduction and more. I loved learning about the other countries and will consider this a must read before doing business abroad.

This book is obviously written from the sales perspective and going abroad to curry new business. It would be helpful to have something where the perspective is your own company as a multinational because the differe...more

You're traveling to another country and want to quickly learn about it or afraid to unintentionally insult anyone. There's a limited amount of time, or maybe you're in-route with a several hours to kill on a plane ride. What do you do? How about breaking out this book? I

t's a great reference for the new visitor, with more than just history, geographical and demographic information. Different cultures have different protocols, customs and particulars, both for the casual traveller and the busines...more

You've been sent on a business trip to Japan to negotiate a merger. You know you'll be invited to people's homes and will be expected to conduct yourself in a manner that won't embarrass the company. What do you do? What do you wear? Will you shake hands or be expected to bow? Can you discuss politics, or is that a no-no?[return][return]This book attempts to help the business traveler conquer the anxieties of putting your best self forward in a foreign country. You'll learn a brief history of th...more

Rarely do I feel compelled to use star ratings at all, but in this case it had to be done. This is a fantastic resource for a writer, exploring brief histories, manners, gift-giving, no-nos, languages, and so much more it can't be included in a single review. The wealth of information is easy-to-read and visually well-organized.

Talk about overwhelming!! I would never try to read this from cover to cover again. Forced to do this for a previous job and it was confusing. It is interesting to learn about other cultures, but I would recommend this as more of a resource to thumb through than to actually read like I had to.

Brazil section makes me wonder how long it's been since the writers visited Brazil. Portuguese phases have the same errors as all previous editions. Really - it's okay to give a gift in the color black or purple... sheesh!

i love books like this. but it's like reading a lonely planet then taking it back to the library, then going on vacation...i could never retain all of the information. i think i just need to buy it to have as a reference book.

Awesome reference for business travelers. Used it ALOT when I worked for a global company back in the late 90's.

Good culture overviews. Wish more countries were included. Some generalizations, but a overall a good reference tool.

A must read for anyone who works in a multinational organization or with clients in other countries. Great reference book.

This was a little dated-- I think it was updated for the 90's-- so I don't know how accurate it is anymore. As well, by necessity it speaks of the culture in broad strokes. But it is a nifty shorthand for some of the major worries one might have about traveling abroad-- for doing business, I'd still find someone(s) native to the country and ask them directly instead of working from a manual.

I teach ESL to groups of students from over 20 countries and this book is often included in the curriculum as a guide to discussing each others countries. Unfortunately, it is so laden with outdated overgeneralizations that the majority of my students end up panning the book the second they read something about their own culture.

Numerous elementary factual errors + silly pop psychology that attempts to summarize the "character" of millions (or billions) of people in two or three sentences = a bad book.

This is an excellent book for very quick refernce on international relations in a business environment. It was my first book i used as reference when i attended Thunderbird.
