3-1/2 stars. Unusual premise, very original with a likeable lead character.

Jaymie Zarlin is a PI in Santa Barbara, California. One morning, she gets a phone call from her friend (well. a bit more than just a friend) Zave. Zave has the info on a job- and thinks that Jaymie would be a good person for it. Jaymie, at first, is hesitant. It’s 5:30 in the morning and who really wants to get out of bed… But a $1,000 bucks and knowing that will help pay the

This is such a good book. Distinct characters, complex mystery, great dialogue, and answers that are logical but not obvious. Most unusual, the writing is terrific. A second-hand-sofa is described as a “Craigslist couch.” Just efficient, good writing. Santa Barbara is a character all its own and it’s a pleasure to roam around it in these pages.

As a homesick native Californian I like the setting for Keskinen's stories. I love the descriptions of homes, the streets of Santa Barbara, the flora and fauna, the Mission, the ocean, the islands.

Besides the locale, these two characters are what draws me to this series for the plot is lacking; the flow is uneven. Something is missing from this book. It has been exceedingly difficult to keep track of the ch

The core storyline of this murder mystery is solidly structured and developed, so much so that it's nearly impossible to determine whodunit from a very limited number of suspects. Overall, a strong entry in this series though one that places too much attention on the lead character's personal life. Read our full review, here:

This is the second book in a very exciting new series. Like the first book, the story winds through developing relationships & offers up surprising twists when this reader thought she had things nailed. The mix of occasional humor with heartache adds interest & makes the characters feel more engaging. I'll look forward to the next installment!

4.5*, really. This is a book I got for Christmas, the giver didn't know it was part of a series. I am going to get the 1st 2 as I enjoyed this one. It's along the Sue Grafton line.
