In the third Caroline Rhodes mystery, author Mary Welk returns Caroline to her old hospital in Chicago where friend, Molly O’Neal, needs her help. It turns out she needs Caroline’s help more than she realized when she becomes the prime suspect for murder.

Caroline moves in with her daughter, Krista, whose boyfriends fall “by the wayside like dandelion puffs on a windy day.” It’s writing like that last phrase that make the reader feel as if she is in the story with Caroline and all her cohorts.

Caroline is returning to her old neighborhood. She is a talented Emergency Room Nurse and she is going to help an old friend who is dealing with hospital politics and the ongoing loss of some of her best staff. Molly has called Caroline and begged her to come and help deal with the untenable situation.
Caroline has reservations about going, because this is going back to a place with terrible memories for her. Her husband Ed, died and Caroline went into a deep depression. Her depression was so dee

Years ago I was into all things medical, tv shows and mysteries. I probably OD on them so it was great after all these years away to tuck into a good medical murder mystery. Caroline Rhodes is a nurse who left the big city hospital she worked in and moved to a small town following the death of her husband and her subsequent breakdown. But when life long friend Molly asks Caroline to return temporarily, she does. Caroline finds the ER in a mess due to construction of a new one, but the bigger mes ...more

I was gifted this excellent read by the clever author. I had read an earlier novel in this 'A Rhodes to Murder Mystery' series and loved it. As happens all to often, there are so many new releases penned by quality authors that I overlooked the following additions to the series. My error and my loss. To Kill A King, is easily the best novel in the series and even though it was written in 2000, the folks at Worldwide Publishing, making a wise business decision, picked it up and reprinted the comp ...more

As she settles in, Caroline tries to keep Molly from being charged with murder. How many others will fall victim to this killer? Mary Welk has written a well crafted mystery with many unexpected surprises. ...more

Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.

3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.

Fascinating read. It begins when Carolyn (the main character) receives an urgent call to please come help (she's a nurse) in the understaffed ER of the hospital she had moved away from. Reluctantly goes back for the sake of her friend and finds herself trying to solve a murder mystery. Packed with action, and some intense moments. Would highly recommend.
