This is a great healthy cookbook. The author is a nutritionist and pares down recipes that most of us are familiar with but which are high in fat and unhealthy. She uses realistic ingredients and the book has gorgeous pictures!
I have tried a number of the recipes and they are really good. My husband even likes them.

The photography is a little stodgy, but the recipes are interesting! Ellie Krieger has a perspective on cooking. She begins by saying (Page 3): "Like you, I crave food that is bursting with flavor and aroma. Food that draws you in and leaves you satisfied. Guess what? That kind of food can be healthy." Thus, she is proposing a cookbook that features dishes that are both delicious and healthy.

I love the way Ellie Krieger provides healthy twists on everyday foods. Some of these are kinda out there and not something I'd enjoy - but most of these recipes are great. And, there are alot of ideas to apply to other recipes you use (like substituting plain fat free greek style yogurt for sour cream - I prefer the Trader Joe's brand myself. and, YEA for dark chocolate - did you know it was actually good for you?). Anyway - I watch her show on the Food Network and a friend gave me this cookboo...more

This cookbook is really great so far. I've probably made about 15 of the recipes, and I'd say easily 12 of them I would make again. Which is a pretty good ratio for a cookbook, in my opinion. Her recipes are healthy, but much more importantly, they TASTE GOOD. And, for the most part, the ingredients are not martha-stewart crazy, they are actually accessible. I just ended up buying it instead of copying the recipes I like, because I have a feeling its one I will keep referring to over the years.

My husband and I are loving this cookbook. I was looking for a chef who's approach and style called to me, and I found it in Ellie Krieger. No, the recipes aren't all low-cal/ low-fat, but it's the kind of fat that makes all the difference. We have actually lost quite a bit of weight since buying this book, and I haven't felt like I was dieting at all.

I've watched Healthy Appetite (Ellie's show) before and that was enough to inspire me to go to Ellie's page on the Food Network site whenever I wanted to find a healthy recipe. So I'm relieved the book is out so I can stop using computer print-outs. There are a few repeats from the Web site but mot of the recipes are new (to me at least). The turkey meatball subs are beyond delicious and not terribly hard to cook. I've discovered that if I make the meatballs and sauce on a Sunday, my husband a...more

Really interesting recipes in the "comfort food" genre, great photography by Christopher Hirsheimer, who was most recently a top editor at the lovely Saveur. Despite Krieger's credentials I didn't feel like the nutrition info was THAT good; or that her recipes were startlingly creative in the ways they tricked you into eating healthy foods. Also, she seems to use odd techniques (eg she calls shredded herbs, why not just chop em? she also calls for some kind of weird technique for shred...more

If you watch her show or get healthy recipes from food network online, then this book is a waste. I thought it needed pictures and something different from her show. But, I do like her show.

Ellie is a wizard with healthy dishes. I swear by her recipes. They're easy to make, low fat/calorie, and delicious. Try the watermelon granita--absolutely divine.

While I tend to steer clear of Food Network hero worship, The Food You Crave surprises, offering more than just a smartly-packaged branding campaign. Dare I consider this a secret find? Its user-friendly text combines Cooking Light wisdom and Food and Wine style for those that want to eat well and shed a few pounds. The layout includes lots of tips and hints and break-out boxes that explain food science, organic eating and how to use fat substitutes. It goes well with wine stains and sauce splat...more

These recipes are delicious as-is and are easily modified to save time. I've tried a few and plan on trying many more. They have all been so good!

I didn't expect to like this book nearly as well as I do. I started bookmarking the recipes I wanted to copy and there were so many only 1/3 of the way through that I am going to buy the sucker instead.
Nice photography, good layout, good recipes that are enticing but not overwhelming for a weeknight dinner. Very nice breakfast suggestions. Dessert section is a little weak, but that's an area I have NO problem with. :-)

I absolutly loved this cook book. She not only gave recipes but told reasons why certain foods are good or bad for you. She brakes down ingredients and talks about them in a way even I can understand. I was hooked with the very first recipe in the book and I marked about 30 different ones to try. It is a completely new style for me but healthier. I am really excited to try the recipes. She gives ideas for breakfast, snacks, lunch, dinner, salads, soups and desserts. I would like to purcha...more

"In my food world, there is no fear or guilt, only joy and balance. So no ingredient is ever off-limits. Rather, all of the recipes here follow my Usually-Sometimes-Rarely philosophy. Notice there is no Never."
