This book was a great review of the history of the personal computer--and as such, a review of the last thirty years of my life, or about half of it! Farwell argues that to understand the personal computer, you must understand the role that software has played. Software changes--CPM to MSDOS to Windows, for eg--and the development of software protocols for sharing information made the personal computer more and more practical for office and private use.
