The recent death of her beloved father had cast the only shadow on their tranquil domesticity. But returning to work after her bereavement, Jess found a sketch, drawn by Matt, of her father, and, in the same mysteriously grand an ...more

First time in my life I was deceived by a book cover !! . Yes the cover was eye catching and I also read the description on the back page and thought this would be a nice read but gosh!! it was a big mistake. I've never read such a lame book.... As soon as I finished it, I gave it to a friend of mine as a gift (not a very close friend) and got rid of this junk. Susan Sallis ... Never again !!!

I really enjoyed this book. Jess had some hard times to cope with and untangled along the way, everyone has a breaking point.
I would read this again.

This was a pleasant enough read & made a change. Not my usual sort of book but kept me interested & was light, easy reading. Not a book I will keep or read again.

I always enjoy reading Susan Sallis and Five Farthings was no exception. Main character, Jess Tavener is in for a few nasty surprises when her life is turned upside-down by personal tragedy and her discovery that every member of her family have been keeping secrets from her. As these secrets - particularly those of her husband - are brought to light, Jess falls deeper into despair. Help, of a sort, is offered, and we're left wondering right up to the book's end if this will be enough.

I liked this book, even though I still found it a little strange. I do seem to find a lot of Susan Sallis' books a little strange, even if I have liked elements of them. I liked it, but didnt love it.
