First time in my life I was deceived by a book cover !! . Yes the cover was eye catching and I also read the description on the back page and thought this would be a nice read but gosh!! it was a big mistake. I've never read such a lame book.... As soon as I finished it, I gave it to a friend of mine as a gift (not a very close friend) and got rid of this junk. Susan Sallis ... Never again !!!
I always enjoy reading Susan Sallis and Five Farthings was no exception. Main character, Jess Tavener is in for a few nasty surprises when her life is turned upside-down by personal tragedy and her discovery that every member of her family have been keeping secrets from her. As these secrets - particularly those of her husband - are brought to light, Jess falls deeper into despair. Help, of a sort, is offered, and we're left wondering right up to the book's end if this will be enough.
