Very well written book. It gives a fascinating account of lives lead by princes under the British Raj. The author has succeeded in drawing realistic character sketches through the situations that take place in the course of time. The ups and downs of the a life filled with grandeur and power are very well depicted. Anita Delgado's struggle as a the Maharani amidst the societal pressures of the then Indian community has been portrayed very realistically. The Maharaja's character is very enchantin

As biography romance, India Passion show us a main character very simmiliar to the characters from Eça de Queiroz novels. Anita represent the woman of imperialist Europe that was struggling for independence.
By the history material, the book brings the routine of the "english" India with all the odd habits of the princes and marajas that tried to adapt their feudalism way of governace with a capitalism world that was rising.
My "wow" for this novel goes More...

A very interesting book telling about the life of Anita Delgado.
There are discussions if some things did really happen. I think we can never know for sure. So it is best to see this book as a novel based on true facts, but not as biography.

I loved this book! I don't know if it's because I'm getting physiologically prepared to go to India, but although the story of the book happened in the last century, it is a true story and you can learn a lot about India from it. Besides, it is a love story and it is very well written.
Truly recommended!

This book was somewhat of a mix between fiction and non fiction. I wish the author had made more of a choice between generes. There were great descriptions of colonial India and how Indian sensibilities have translated worldwide. I'd get interested in learning about India and then the author would start taking about the characters and their feelings, etc. The characters were somewhat two dimensional and never fully fleshed out to my point of view. I waited almost 400 pages for the big reveal

I started this book ages ago, and forced myself to finish it. The material was interesting, of course--a Spanish woman who becomes one of the many wives of a Rajah in British-Colonial India? What's not to like?
I'll tell you what's not to like: the writing. It was terrible. From a techinical perspective, it broke the rules(like point-of-view--I was very disconcerted that we had random glimpses into everyone's head whenever the author felt like putting us there). The prose was ted More...

Gran historia.

A truly magical journey from Spain to India. The contrast between western and easter civilization is astonishing. Loved it, LOVED IT.

Amazing story! Sadly, no kindle version, but this true story is one you won't be able to put it down!

Not as bad as it sounds. It would have helped if the author had used another tense in narrating.

A Spanish dancer becomes the Princess of Kapurthala. In one of his visits to Europe the Marajah Jadight Singh falls in love with this woman and takes her to be his next marani in India, making his first wives furious and the British Raj shocked.
But the real scandal happens many years later.
Passionate! This story brings out the India of early twentieth century through the eyes and heart of a foreigner that gets very intimate to this culture full of mysteries. Quite predictable, More...

The theme of Indian men marrying Western Women interests me (and there seem to be plenty of books on this subject in India bookstores). Yet this love story is not one for the ages; apart from their extravagance, both the maharajah and Anita were tepid characters. However, the book conveys a strong sense of time and place of a bygone era: a rich Indian prince, his quests to prove himself and the women who tolerate his ways. Through her suffering Anita forges her character, just as the book ends

Excellent. A true love story with exquisite details of the culture, traditions, history of an India of that era. A really enjoyable read.

I got this book because it was based on a true story of a Spanish chorus girl marrying a Rajasthani Maharaja.
It started off relatively interesting and then just went downhill from there. Gave up shortly after Anita arrived in India from to marry her Raja. Every character in the book was just annoying.

That's is a great book. In portuguese the title is "Paixão India". It's amazing how India it's so different, when I'm reading this book I fell like I'm there... in India!! It's a great history... I'm almost finishing and I'm loving...

Liked a lot! Short chapters, easy to fallow, fascinating story! Anita is extemely interesting character! Besides, as the story is going in the rich India of the marahjas, makes it sound as a fairy tale of a real woman.

I liked this book because this book describes India or rather Punjab at the time of British Period and simultanously describes the feelings of its characters.
