"There she was, chartreuse and warty and smiling at him. Such a nice smile. Something in his heart fluttered."

The young maiden, Parsley, will eat nothing but parsley, which in Snettering-on-Snoakes grows only in the fairy Bombina's garden. All is well -- until Bombina is released from the fairy queen's dungeon. Her crime? Failing to get along with humans. And tu

Fairy tale like where the good people live happily ever after.
Perfect for 3-5 grade girls! Need to see how many of these we have in library.
Short and sweet.
Parsley is a girl who loves to eat parsley.
A fairy brings her to live with her. Turns her into to a toad by mistake.
She has a problem with this. Temper. Turns lots into toads.
Tansy is the youngest son of the king. 2 older twin, evil brothers.
King sends them on a quest to find the finest linen.

This book, I did not like that much as the others. The stories combined into this book, First of all, I think was all mixed up. It sounds like it's the princess and the frog, but it is just the other way around. Crazy. I would definantly not want to ever kiss a toad. As for the stories, they are more combinde into two stories. The first part of the story it starts out as Rupunzal. Besides, who would ever have a name like a spice. Parsley?

Tansy, the kings youngust son's brothers, Ru...more

In reading and blogging, I love making connections, especially to literary inspirations. Stories and books can and should stand alone for those who don't know the literary origins, but recognizing a retelling or an homage makes the experience all the more rich.

In the case of For Biddle's Sake by Gail Carson Levine, I only recognized half of the inspiration: Rapunzel. It wasn't until reading the post on Lyndi's Favorite Books that I learned of the other story behind the book, "Pu...more

I read it because I loved Levine's Ella Enchanted. This book was quite disappointing. It felt rushed. It was too short (even though that was why I chose it in the first place.) It'd be good for younger readers, much younger readers. It seemed like it'd make a cute story, but there wasn't much character (or plot) development. The characters were way too one dimensional.

More great fun and this time the story is an unusual twist on The Frog Prince. (There were two mentions of items used in The Two Princesses of Bamarre-fun for me.) What does a fairy do for fun when she's just be released from jail?

I read this to my almost 5 year old--and she loved it. The story was entertaining and there were days that she begged me to read more (and more...and more)! It was a fun story--kind of a combination of Rapunzel and...well, I don't know what else. But we enjoyed it.

What a wonderful book about treating others well. It was a very fun quick read that I think very young readers could enjoy. I would read this book aloud to my kids for sure!

Gail Carson Levine writes the most hilarious versions of the fairy tales we all grew up with, but gives them a twist that will make you and your kids giggle together!

I like this series of books by Gail Carson Levine, because she takes classic fairy tales and mixes them up a bit. They're clever, and a quick read.

Cute little retelling about a fairytale I've never heard about.
Wish Ms Levine would write more The Princess Tales books, they're so enjoyable! :)

This is a good book so read it. And make sure you don't get turned into a toad! (You won't understand that last sentence until you read the book.)

3.5 stars. A cute, funny short story of rapunzel with a twist - she gets turned into a frog princess instead of being in a tower.

This book is taken from the little known German fairytale Puddocky. It is quite like a cross between the Frog Prince and Rapunzel. Parsley has been taken in by the fairy Bombina after Parsely's father stole parsley (the herb) from Bombina's garden. Bombina loves Parsely but one day accidentally turns her into a toad. Only when someone proposes to Parsley will she turned back into a human.

I have really enjoyed these short little princess fairy tales done by Gail Carson Levine. T...more
