2 1/2 stars. I read other books in this series and really enjoyed them. They are romantic and mostly fade to black during those scenes. For some reason the author decided to be very descriptive this time around and the sex almost took over the whole book. I knew going in from the description that there would be some sensual scenes, but I just didn't realize there would be so many. I think there were 7, but I'm not going back to count. I don't think I've ever read a book with this much sex in it. ...more

I've read several of Christine Pope's books, and this is my favorite so far. Although there are a few plot issues (don't discuss strategy in the elevator of your enemy's building!), I enjoyed the characters so much, I found I really didn't care. I liked this book enough to re-read it after I finished it, taking extra time to savor it. Lira and Rast's romance felt believable and natural, and Rast is an awesome alpha male.

I've been enjoying this Sci Fi romance series, but I'm disappointed that the author decided to change from romance and a limited amount of non-graphic sex, to very graphic sex. I especially disliked that she chose to make the very first "event" to be a sort of planned seduction (though how the heroine could be that stupid, is beyond me).

This book takes place about eighteen months after book one ends, with Miala and Eryk Thorn cast in strong supporting roles. It was rewarding to see them in their new life and added an extra dimension to this story. I am very much enjoying the series and am looking forward to book four.

Gaian Captain Lira Jannholm, commander of the Valiant, is guarding a group of scientists at a new Gaian mining claim. The Stacians are disputing the claim and have their own ship, commanded by Captain Rast Se
The romantic aspect between the two protagonists, Rast and Lira, was developed really well. I appreciated and loved reading Rast's growing feelings for Lira, and eventually falling in love with her all from his POV. His feelings for her came across as real and true. I loved how they both realized that there was more to life, like falling in love, than dedicating their lives to the military believing that all else was not meant to be. An intriguing story with clear and vivid descriptions of space ...more
Lira and Rast are enemies. Upon a bet, Rast makes Lira an offer she can't refuse which leads to a passionate connection between them. Unfortunately it also leads to a change in her future that will bring Rast to her rescue. The story is a bit slow at times, but I loved the characters so much I didn't mind. You get to see a couple characters from a previous book. I loved Rast's character. He's like a space pirate in looks, but as honourable as he is cunning and nobody's fool. Lira is also a ...more

This was a fast, fun read, with great chemistry between the hero and heroine. He's an alien, but he's also smoking-hot -- and probably the best thing that ever happened to Lira, the heroine, even though she doesn't believe it at first. This book was spicier than some of the author's other books, but the sex scenes were well done and didn't get in the way of the fast-paced plot, which had a lot of unexpected twists. This is good old-fashioned space opera with relatable leads and a welcome lack of ...more

Their initial meeting was a bit contrived, but after that, things got more interesting. Lira and Rast are an dynamic couple. Lots of space drama and political angst.

My one challenge with this series is the idea that all these different species of sentient people are "compatible." It's hard enough for two earth based humans to find common ground ;). Oh well...I can suspend disbelief long enough to enjoy a good, well-written tale.

I really enjoyed this book, as a New Zealander myself it was really cool to come across New Zealand featuring as a back of beyond escape for the Thorns - we certainly feel like we're at the arse end of the universe - though that's not a bad thing in my book! Great story, engaging characters. The Stacian characters make me think of Klingons.

Another great read from The Gaia Consortium series

Christine Pope is a fairly new auhor to me. This is the second book I've read from her. The books are fun science fiction romance novels and the characters are intelligent. Since I'm a big fan of both, tge melding is perfect for me.
Loved it! Really fun sci-fi adventure. I love the universe that Ms. Pope has created and can't wait to read more of this series. Great forbidden love story as well.

My casting for Rast sen Drenthan:

Disclaimer: I won this book from Goodreads.

I was unable to find the first three stories in the series, but that did not affect this book. The plot is self-contained. The story is a combination of science fiction, thriller, and romance. I enjoyed reading it.

I chose this book because I don't have this kind of novel in my collection. This was a

Very interesting novel. I chose to depart from the usual detective stories. The characters are very well defined and likeable.
