This book is written as the journal of Edmund Talbot as he sails from England to Australia and his observations of life on board. At first I found it hard to get into but it was worth persevering with and in the end a good story. I really liked the jouranl style it was written in.

I liked this book - basically its the journal of Edmund Talbot (sort of a big deal in Ye Olde England) who travels to start a new life in Austrailia. The story is of how society and the norms degenerate aboard the ship as they get farther and farther into the uncharted waters. Edmund struggles between maintaining behaivor of a proper gentleman and acting how he wants. The main character is travelling from England to America, and in his letters home details ship life and his fellow passengers. I tried to read this several times, but just couldn't get into it. I'm just too tired of self-satisfied, naive prigs.
