The only case Mrs. Deford failed to write about was Ed Gein's. Otherwise it is a really interesting and thorough study on psychopaths and their murderous motivations. I noticed that in about eight or nine of the thirteen cases those personalities were the product of an upbringing by overprotective, fussy and sometimes domineering mothers. Miriam Allen deFord (August 21, 1888 – February 22, 1975) was an American writer.

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she worked as a newspaper reporter for a time and, in the early 1900s, was also a campaigner and disseminator of birth control information to women.
