The Doctor's Diet is the cure to unhealthy eating — an American epidemic with a death toll higher than that of car accidents, drug abuse, smoking, and gun violence combined. Dr. Stork is genuinely concerned about what he considers to be a true crisis. He has created a flexible and workable diet plan that will help readers lose weight, restore health, prevent disease and ul ...more

Scroll down to see my progress after one week on The Doctor's Diet!

I am obsessed with The Doctor's tv show. They have great little health and beauty tips based off of real medicine. When I recently saw their episode about Dr. Travis's new diet I went online and bought the book immediately. Every diet is going to be challenging but most of them work. If you follow most diets you will lose weight but at what cost. Most of them are not healthy and most are not sustainable. Once you get off of the

Second paragraph - week 8 update

I have been on the plan for four weeks now and have lost a total of 12 pounds! (Hence the five stars). Most of the information is basic but I also found his reviews on certain ingredients (i.e. coconut oil, gluten) to be quite honest and he tells why he feels that way. I have not felt hungry at all on the diet (and I have never been known as a "light-eater"). Maybe I can do an update in another four weeks as I, unfortunately, still have a lot more extra baggage to

The Doctor's Diet was an excellent manual for good health and well-being with plenty of information about the effect of obesity on the body and mind. Laid out in a clear, easy to understand manner, it provides support every step of the way with plenty of tips and motivation.

I liked the fact that there was no deprivation, no food groups cut out or restricted and readers are encouraged to embrace moderation rather than any extreme measures. I especially liked the STAT plan and although at first g

The Doctor's Diet is a program developed by Dr. Travis L. Stork that presents very scary but necessary to know facts about obesity, then addresses the problem with a diet plan, motivations, and recipes. He breaks the plan down by Stat (starting to lose weight now) and then Restore and Maintain for long term goal achievement. The plan isn't about deprivation; rather, it's about understanding what you are eating and how it

I didn't look up this book because I need to lose weight. I have only a few left to lose to reach the "ideal weight" according to my medical chart and I'm in no hurry. But I am reading on what a healthy diet is--because that's what's important to me, and because soon I have to think about not losing, but maintaining--which as I think everyone knows is the hard part. A 2011 New York Times article stated "more than 90 percent of people who lose a lot of weight gain it back."

The reason this isn't

I have read the entire book. I have not started using this eating plan but I am really forward to starting.
the only problem I think I will have is not being able to eat any of green vegetables high in Vitamin k.

Very easy to follow. My boyfriend and I have been on it for 4 weeks and so far I lost 10 pounds and my BF lost 13 pound. But most importantly we feel great! This is not a temporary fix. This is a life change!

I have to give this book five stars because I'm currently following the meal plan in it. And it works. I've lost 8 to 9kg in the almost four weeks I've been following it.

Here's the thing - I hate exercise - I always have, but the half hour amount you need to do each day according to this book has been easy for me. I walk and I dance. That's one of the things I loved about Doctor Stork and this book - he got me. In part of the book he wrote that it was okay to dance in your living room. That mad

One of the funniest books I've ever read! It was great....wait, what? They were serious? Oh. Well, then. Follow this plan and you'll absolutely lose weight. And probably your freedom, since you'll likely do murder for food. NO alternatives depending on amount of weight you have to lose, options given for categories of food lead to unrealistic combinations. For example, for breakfast, you could conceivably have a glass of (skim) milk and an apple. For lunch, you could have a cup of plain yogurt a ...more

"You're following The Doctor's Diet because you want results, right? And you probably love the idea of fast results. Hey, who wouldn't?"

This book definitely reads like it was written by a TV host which got increasingly annoying. The target audience of this book is people wanting to lose weight, as described on the cover. I think that this book might work great for some people. It offers advice based on the most widely accepted nutrition research in the medical field and Dr. Stork is very positiv

This book includes conclusive research in the nutritional sciences and with a detailed bibliography. According to Stork, who is an emergency room doctor, the biggest problems in the E.R., are due to the food we choose to eat. Reducing the excess belly fat is an important goal of The Doctor’s Diet. The book is designed in with 3 stages of the STAT program. Part 1 includes the 14-day STAT plan. In other words, the STAT plan is started immediately. After that he outlines the Restore Plan, and the

Very smart advice, underpinned with solid research and rationale written in plain English. I've applied the ideas and have benefitted; this has changed the way I think about purchase and consume food. The writing can be somewhat repetitive and the author at times overwrought, but the ideas are worth reading through all of that. Another reason for the 4 stars is the recipe section - it's far too basic and boring and it didn't need to be. There are a multitude of good recipes one can leverage with ...more

I am a fan of Dr Stork and that's probably the main reason I picked this up. There are some great recipes in here but I don't think that I would be following the diet. (I already don't eat gluten, chocolate and I have cut out almost all sugar from my diet, so I guess it's not too different).

I enjoyed the information more for this one. It was a really interesting read.

This is a good reads first read book.
I read this book but haven't implemented the program.
This book provides a clear and simple plan for lasting weight loss. Written by Dr Travis Stork of the show The Doctor's, his STAT plan for weight loss provides the dieter with a plan for health as well as weight loss. Jam packed with information on foods, good and bad, and much much more information.
I received this book for free from a Goodreads First Reads giveaway.

I am not even going to pretend that I didn't read this book because of cutie pie, Dr. Stork. On a serious note, I thought this book provided accurate information concerning obesity and what problems we are facing as a nation. The plans are clear and concise, but don't necessarily provide new information on living a healthy active lifestyle. Take the time to read it and refresh your memory of what a healthy lifestyle can do for you and your family.

I unfortunately cannot start this review with "I lost so much weight!" since I read it in a few days. I absolutely love the TV show "The Doctor's", and this book actually reads the way Dr Travis Stork speaks on the show. He uses a shock tactic in the beginning to grab the reader in, and even though the book claims to not want to "scare" the audience into starting the diet, it's sort of what it does. You will peer at that chocolate bar suspiciously, let me tell you.

Also, finally, a diet book that

Travis Stork M. D. attempts to make healthy eating and weight loss easy. Some of the dietary suggestions provided are not anything new, however the information is presented in a clear manner (without all the medical jargon). I do appreciate that going "gluten free" to aid in weight loss is not a recommendation made by the author. The eating plans are somewhat flexible but they still are plans with dietary restrictions, especially the STAT plan. Perhaps the goal is to lose weight in the first two ...more

Dr. Travis has a great blueprint for lifestyle change in this book. Recipes, meal equations, and listed benefits of whole foods are incredibly helpful and easily attainable. Although the diet-specifics impressed me, not much else did. Dr. Travis seems to randomly choose facts to provide evidence for, and as a person who likes proof and knows the value of research, I was disappointed. Additionally, the book was really tough for me to read all the way through. I thought that the color schemes, lay ...more

I have been perusing ARC diet books to help me lose weight. I like this one because it includes a lot of health information about why this plan is good for you and will help you. It also has a diet where serving sizes are spelled pout which is helpful when making your own menus. So you wont have to eat some meals that you would never think of eating and end up buying a large bottle of something that you will never use again.

The recipes in the book are very good too. All around this is the best

Similar to the many diet books out there but also this books adds a flexible easy to follow program that focuses on life changes rather than following strict dietary rules. Dr. Travis also points out like others how our food sources contain so much that is bad for us and is evident in the dramatic rise in obesity and related afflictions such as diabetes. Like anything if one is committed to the change results will show in time. Dr. Travis helps in breaking things down to make them easy to unders ...more

I picked this book up because I've heard great things about it via The Doctor's TV show. It piqued my interest so I decided to give it a try. There are A LOT of health issues within my extended family. Everything from high blood pressure, diabetes, heart attacks, obesity, etc. Most of their health problems are direct results of poor life choices, i.e: poor diet, lack of exercise, smoking and drinking. I'm a wife and mother and I want to be healthy for as long as possible for my family. I also wa ...more

I received this book in a Goodreads giveaway and was anxious to begin reading. There are so many diet books out on the market that tend promote fad diets. This one does not. What Dr. Stork does is provide an eating plan that focuses on real foods. The eating plan is similar to an exchange plan. Serving of protein & fruit for breakfast, Serving of protein & vegetables for lunch, etc. with some flexibility built in. He also gives you 10 prescriptions to follow, like reduce the amount of su ...more
