In addition to JD Robb’s (as of now) 36 full length novels featuring NYPD Homicide Lt. Eve Dallas, there are now some dozen novellas of varying lengths to stave off the fan club in between additions to the prolific larger set. In “Eternity”, we find a typical police procedural starring our leading lady against what seems like a “vampire” murderer, in that the two victims so far, a minor celeb named Tiara Kent, and a bartender that works at the villain’s underground druggie/vampire cult club, hav...more
In this short story from the Dead of Night anthology, our fearless Lieutenant Eve Dallas is hunting a vampire allegedly responsible for the murder of a beautiful young woman. Wait, what? Vampires in an 'In Death' story?! Rest assured this series has not taken a turn down paranormal lane, although you'd be hard pressed to convince this murderer otherwise.

Normally I save two stars for books that I really didn't like, but didn't out and out despise. Eternity in Death is the exception.
It's not a terrible book. It's not particularly a mystery, more a police procedural thriller. What is is, is a cop-out. There are a couple of these in the 'In Death' series, and to me, they stand out like a sore thumb.
These, 'gimmick' entries into the series always piss me off. 'In Death' books follow a few basic templates; Eve catches a homicide involving a famous se...more

The story did not have as much depth and complexity as I usually like, but that's the tradeoff when you want a story that is only about four hours long.
I listened to this on my drive to Spokane, and although I was skeptical about the vampire sensationalism at the beginning, I kept listening, and it didn't take long to move into the crime-fighting aspect of the story. I liked the characters, and I LOVED the way it was read, with all the different accents for the different characters.

This is one of the novellas for this series. I'm not a vampire story lover, but this one is fun. It is actually one of my favorites of the shorter novels, mostly because it is suspenseful despite it's length, and I just love Peabody; she has some great lines in this one! The other one of the short ones that I like is Haunted in Death, another funny one for Peabody.

I love J.D. Robb, in death series, but supernatural mixed with a murder wasn't that good.
Was shorter than her others in the series which at least made the story line faster paced, with links to Eve's past which I liked in it. But the murderer was obvious and implied throughout, so the twists and turns, which I expect from this series, just weren't there.
Overall glad that this is Robb's only supernatural and crime mixed book, as the vampire theme with blood drinking murderer didn't really do it...more

Before you could really get into this one, it was over. There was no time for much in the way of character interaction and dynamics or to string along the mystery. Still, Eve and Roarke, Peabody and McNab, and Baxter and Trueheart managed to get into the action, so there was a lot going for it, too. As long as you know going in that this is more of a short story than a book, it's a good read.
An average entry in the In Death series. Robb set out with a plan to include supernatural/vampire elements in this great series, but fell short. She just didn't marry traditional vampire lore with her 2060 New York City very well. Meh, it was a novella, though - had this been full length, I would have been pissed, but for less than hundred pages, I applaud the effort, even if it's lacking.
A short installment that finds Eve, Roark, Peabody, McNab and Feeney going up against a man who, to all appearances, is a vampire. Eve is determined to prove he's not but instead prove he's just another cold blooded psychopathic killer who believes he's one of the walking undead. A little different than the usual style of previous Eve Dallas cases, but this one delivers on all fronts.
I re-read this short novella so many times, I stopped to count. But I know it for a fact, that I always get the same pleasure from reading it. The main police case is full of comic, humor and well written dialogues.
Great work!

The book started out as an enigma, in ways that I couldn't quite put a finger on. I wasn't as fascinated with vampires as I am with zombies, which probably explains my lack of enthusiasm for this book.
An okay read, especially if you've been reading most In Death books for the past few years. The ending wasn't pulled off well.

“I didn't want to tell you I'd been scared, much less why. I guess that was stupid."
"It was."
"Aren't you supposed to say something like 'no, it wasn't. Blah, blah, support, stroke, let me get you some chocolate'?"
"You haven't red the marriage handbook's footnotes. It's another woman who does that sort of thing. I believe I'm allowed to be more blunt, then ask if you'd like a quick shag."
