In addition to JD Robb’s (as of now) 36 full length novels featuring NYPD Homicide Lt. Eve Dallas, there are now some dozen novellas of varying lengths to stave off the fan club in between additions to the prolific larger set. In “Eternity”, we find a typical police procedural starring our leading lady against what seems like a “vampire” murderer, in that the two victims so far, a minor celeb named Tiara Kent, and a bartender that works at the villain’s underground druggie/vampire cult club, hav...more

In this short story from the Dead of Night anthology, our fearless Lieutenant Eve Dallas is hunting a vampire allegedly responsible for the murder of a beautiful young woman. Wait, what? Vampires in an 'In Death' story?! Rest assured this series has not taken a turn down paranormal lane, although you'd be hard pressed to convince this murderer otherwise.

Known for her wild living, the very rich, beautiful and famous Tiara Kent is found dead by exsanguination in her apartment, the only injury on...more

Normally I save two stars for books that I really didn't like, but didn't out and out despise. Eternity in Death is the exception.
It's not a terrible book. It's not particularly a mystery, more a police procedural thriller. What is is, is a cop-out. There are a couple of these in the 'In Death' series, and to me, they stand out like a sore thumb.
These, 'gimmick' entries into the series always piss me off. 'In Death' books follow a few basic templates; Eve catches a homicide involving a famous se...more

The story did not have as much depth and complexity as I usually like, but that's the tradeoff when you want a story that is only about four hours long.

I listened to this on my drive to Spokane, and although I was skeptical about the vampire sensationalism at the beginning, I kept listening, and it didn't take long to move into the crime-fighting aspect of the story. I liked the characters, and I LOVED the way it was read, with all the different accents for the different characters.

I thought Eve...more

This is one of the novellas for this series. I'm not a vampire story lover, but this one is fun. It is actually one of my favorites of the shorter novels, mostly because it is suspenseful despite it's length, and I just love Peabody; she has some great lines in this one! The other one of the short ones that I like is Haunted in Death, another funny one for Peabody.

A socialite is found dead in her apt, killed with what looks like a vampire bite. Eve, Peabody, Roarke, and McNab proceed to a new u...more

I love J.D. Robb, in death series, but supernatural mixed with a murder wasn't that good.

Was shorter than her others in the series which at least made the story line faster paced, with links to Eve's past which I liked in it. But the murderer was obvious and implied throughout, so the twists and turns, which I expect from this series, just weren't there.

Overall glad that this is Robb's only supernatural and crime mixed book, as the vampire theme with blood drinking murderer didn't really do it...more

Before you could really get into this one, it was over. There was no time for much in the way of character interaction and dynamics or to string along the mystery. Still, Eve and Roarke, Peabody and McNab, and Baxter and Trueheart managed to get into the action, so there was a lot going for it, too. As long as you know going in that this is more of a short story than a book, it's a good read.

An average entry in the In Death series. Robb set out with a plan to include supernatural/vampire elements in this great series, but fell short. She just didn't marry traditional vampire lore with her 2060 New York City very well. Meh, it was a novella, though - had this been full length, I would have been pissed, but for less than hundred pages, I applaud the effort, even if it's lacking.

A short installment that finds Eve, Roark, Peabody, McNab and Feeney going up against a man who, to all appearances, is a vampire. Eve is determined to prove he's not but instead prove he's just another cold blooded psychopathic killer who believes he's one of the walking undead. A little different than the usual style of previous Eve Dallas cases, but this one delivers on all fronts.

I guess it was about time that Nora Roberts gave into the trend and wrote about vampires. This was the worst (for me) so far in the series and I quite like them all. However, it had it's moments, the characters and some of the dialogues are the only reason I'm giving this 3 stars instead of 2.

One of the short stories from a four-author anthology. I've not yet read any of the other short stories in these books and wasn't inclined to do so on this one either. Not a big fan of the vampire/monster/supernatural stories.

This one should actually be 25.5 instead of 24.5, Eternity happens after Creation which is #25.
Creation in Death happens in March 2060 and Eternity is April 2060 so chronologically its a tad out of order. Thought I would share! Like them both!!

I re-read this short novella so many times, I stopped to count. But I know it for a fact, that I always get the same pleasure from reading it. The main police case is full of comic, humor and well written dialogues.
Great work!

Hummm........... Vampires; living forever young? NOT GONNA HAPPEN! But it was a great little story that was spun. Listened to this one on C.D. I liked this form of media once in awhile.

The book started out as an enigma, in ways that I couldn't quite put a finger on. I wasn't as fascinated with vampires as I am with zombies, which probably explains my lack of enthusiasm for this book.

An okay read, especially if you've been reading most In Death books for the past few years. The ending wasn't pulled off well.

"Kid, weird shit happens because people are f*ckin' crazy!" -Feeney

Love the series and this one was was quick and fun. It cracks me up when Eve is put in these "supernatural" situations. :)

*sigh*
The snark was off the hook. And Eve/Peabody moments were epic! The dialogue in these books are my favorite part.

And then there's Roarke. Oh, Roarke...I'm as in love with you as Eve is.

This story was missing all of the regular awesomeness of the other ones. Because it was so short, I couldn't really get in to it, or care overmuch for the victims.

Two-haiku review:

Party girl murdered,
Drained of blood, jewels missing.
Is it a vampire?

Eve goes underground.
Can she overcome her fears
Of sociopath?

Another quick (3 disc) between the numbers with Eve and Roarke. I didn't enjoy this one as much as the last 'tweener with the ghost. But it was mostly entertaining.
Laura Peace
So obviously not written by Robb/Roberts. You'd think she'd make sure to choose a ghost writer who was familiar with her style. Sheesh.
Jessica
Again, just not feeling the supernatural aspect of these anthology short stories. Don't feel like they go with the rest of the series.
Abegail
I was a bit confused if there really was a vampire. Eve doesn't believe it so I wasn't really sure too....
Kathy Davie
It seems as though all the In Death short stories are in the realm of the paranormal...vampires???

I love this books, I still have not read one that I have not been satisfied with. Hard to put down.

Really? Vampires? I expected better from you, Nora Roberts.

Her family were avid readers, so books were always important in her life. She attended a Catholic school and credits the nuns with instilling in her a sense of discipline.
