In an understated way, Butler recounts how she and her husband were victims of the Gran Prix Fire in 2004, which burnt over 1,000 homes in suburban Los Angeles. They had a lovely home in the canyon north of Claremont, which was a beautiful refuge and counterbalance to the city.

How they rebuilt their lives is the story of this lovely volume.
