Okay, I really did like this book very much, but unfortunately for you, Jim, I had to dock you some points for putting too much of a political spin on this story. Of course I did see it coming from book 1, but still -- I had a little more hope you would straighten it out a little bit.

It was incredibly manipulative to write a story for kids about saving the world from global warming. How many facts do kids know about the issue anyway? A lot -- not all by any means -- are just going along ...more

The release of a sequel is an anticipated event, especially if the sequel is written by a wildly-popular, best-selling author like James Patterson. Approximately 4.8 million copies have been sold of the previous three books in the Maximum Ride series, so hopes were high that Final Warning, the new installment, would be just as entertaining. When a sequel fails to live up to the standards of the previous books in the series, readers feel let down.

There are three issues that affect the quali...more

P-U, people! Now, I try to be nice in my Goodread-reviewing, really I do. Books I didn't like usually just disappear from my list, unless the author is dead (like Steinbeck), lest I spread bad feelings amongst the authorly community.

But Patterson must be stopped!

And since he doesn't even write these books, I feel the need to call attention to what his "co-writer" is doing.

That is: churning out one of the WORST BOOKS I've read this year!

Good golly, people, what was thi...more

Ok, the humor was still there. The book was funny. Thin. But funny.

*SPOILERS BEGIN*
I completely felt the ending was horrible. It was a disappointment. It was like Patterson was attempting to write the book, but wasn't done yet, and had forgotten to put in most of the excitement. I was also angry at the sorely lacking Max/Fang scenes. Sure we had a kiss and a mention every other chapter, but there was nothing sturdy. Even the ending, it ends with them going off on another mission. No closur...more

While this book has some of the excitement of the first ones, it's lacking in a lot of the action and character development that made it easier to ignore Patterson's bad writing style in the other Maximum Ride books. The mysterious "Uber-Director" is also not clear as a villain. What was his motivation for going after the flock? How did he become part human, part machine? It's all too quickly and conveniently ended, in a non-satisfying way. Instead, this book is full of didactic s...more

Wow. I read this book in one sitting. And when I finished it, I wanted to throw it across the room and scream in frustration. It was one of those books where you stare at the last page for a really long time and then finally say, "That's IT???" The entire time I was reading it, I was expecting that something important was going to happen, but nothing did! I mean, the first two books were totally amazing. I thought the third book was okay--Max & co. saving the world from some evil c...more

My problem with the story wasn't so much that James Patterson used it as a soapbox for global warming -- after all, it's his book, and he can do what he wants.

The problem, as I see it, is there was NO WAY he started writing this series with a plan to make Max's "saving the world mission" one that had anything to do with this topic.

If you go back and read the series from the beginning, starting with THE ANGEL EXPERIMENT, we all knew that Max and the gang had a special mission,...more

Well, actually I'd give it a 3 1/2, but there's no option here. I again enjoyed this book and the exciting twists, I really liked the other ones more. This one needs a little more wrapping up, that is if he's not planning on writing any more. The preaching of the "theory" of global warming was getting a bit repetitive. It didn't have the same feel as the rest of the book. It's like the author decided to shift gears, and jump onto the Gore bandwagon. I wonder how many free "$...more

A Maximum Ride Novel: The Final Warning is the fourth book in the Maximum Ride trilogy. At least, it was supposed to be a trilogy, but it made lots of money, so here’s the fourth novel.

Honestly, I think the series deteriorates exponentially with each installment, beginning at “amazing” with the first book to “dismal and uninspired” for this fourth installment. In actuality, I didn’t fini...more

What the hell was that? I've been enjoying the humor and action and adventure of this series (even though they are "young adult" and I'm anything but) . . . but this? OK, yeah, it had the humor. And about two chapters of action and adventure. The rest was penguins and Antarctica and snow and OHNOESGLOBALWARMINGISTEHBAAAAAAADDDDD!!!1!!11!!!ELEVENTY-ONE!!!

Mr. Patterson, if I want a lecture on global warming shoved down my throat, I'll go talk to Al Gore. From you I want what you...more

I really enjoy this series - hence the 4-star rating. It's a great story, great characters, a fun casual writing style with amusing pop-culture references. But...

Comparisons to Harry Potter irritate me. These books are not Harry Potter quality literature. The pop-culture references alone will prevent these books from being quite so relevant in 50 years - but beyond that, these are books written to sell lots of copies. If James Patterson were trying to write a great classic, he would hav...more

I still really love the Maximum Ride characters and Max's whitty comebacks. This book didn't quite do it for me though. The villains were goofy and missed that strong connection with the previous books. Also, this whole trend of everyone and their dog getting extra special powers has got to stop or at least lead to some specific purpose. Seriously, they can already fly, what more do they need? I didn't feel like Max and the flock were really working towards that great purpose of saving the ...more

Wow...usually I enjoy James Patterson's work, but this book just was not quite up to par. There didn't seem to be much of a plot and was full of dire global warming messages. I felt more like I was reading a 256 page commercial than a book. The climax seemed to be wedged in toward the end and I am stretching by calling it a climax. Ugh!

If you are a die-hard James Patterson fan and feel that you need to read every word he's ever written (which I continually question if he's actual the c...more

Whoa, that's it? Are you kidding me! The entire time I was reading it, I was expecting that something to happen, but nothing did! The first three books were fun. Max & co. saving the world from some evil company/scientist, blah, blah, blah (to quote Max). But in this one Max & the flock go to Antarctica to study cute fuzzy penguins and then preach to Congress about global warming, important, but what!?! What happened to the fun and suspenseful story about six bird kids running for their...more

Dear James Patterson,
I really enjoyed the first three books of the Maximum Ride series. It was a great adventure, told in a fun readable style, that was really kinda cool.
I was really excited when I got the last book yesterday...

But to end the series this lamely???

You end it with this kick ass character PREACHING to Congress about recycling and saving the world from GLOBAL WARMING!?! Holy fucking shit man... I didn't wanna read a pamphlet about how to recycle pla...more

Hahahahaha ok so I don't have an amazingly early copy of this book . . . but there's a chapter 6 exerpt out and I will be reading that nonstop over and over until I am truly 'currently reading' this book. THEN it can go in my 'read' shelf.

*EDIT* Well I read it now. And, frankly, it's quite a disappointment. I'd list everything that's wrong with it but I don't have all afternoon...go read Denae's review, she listed it all quite eloquently and concisely. Lol unlike me. But yeah, letdown much. ...more
