The Russians are propping up the government, the French are backing one rebel faction and the British are backing another. And in north Africa, young SAS trooper Danny Black is coming to the end of a gruelling

Chris Ryan books are an odd choice for me if you look at the rest of the books that I read but I absolutely love them - they grip you right from the first page and I can never put them down - read this one in just over 24 hours not bad considering I was working for at least 8 of these hours. Danny Black ...........born to be a hero that was clear right from the start but as per usual a great twist or twists at the end that just make the book. Searching for this book on Goodreads I have found a ...more

I am reviewing the novel Masters Of War by Chris Ryan which is an excellent SAS thriller which I bought from a local supermarket. This novel which has only just been released is quite topical in that it is centred around the civil war in Syria. Chris was in this country in 1991 during the First Gulf War and knows what a dangerous place it is. He is also an ex SAS soldier so there are wonderful snippets of information from that. The title of the book refers to the politicians and high ranking ...more

Yet another classic Chris Ryan novel. A thrilling read - as always. If you like SAS type adventures, this is for you. Gory, many twists and turns - an adventure not to miss. You never know what is going to happen next. I don't reveal story line but (very unusually) I have one minor complaint. At one point, two prisoners are thrown into a helicopter with their "hands tied behind their backs." Just two paragraphs later, one is banged in the head with a rifle butt and falls to the floor "with his ...more

There is a brutalness (if that's not a word, it is now) to this book that may not be for everyone, but it certainly worked for me.
If you're a fan of Chris Ryan then this is more solid action for you to inhale. If you haven't read him and you like military action, then get into it.
The plot is current, black ops in Syria, and the foreword where the author explains about his experiences there back in 1991 only adds to the reading experience. Having recently spent some time in Turkey, it's bizarre t

This was a bit of a departure from my usual fantasy literature, but it was a good read none the less. Quite violent and down to earth the novel takes us on a journey through modern warfare and politics. I liked the main character, but one of them, the MI6 officer, was a bit over the top, and would have been more suited to the role of tea boy. That said, Chris Ryan did do an excellent job of getting the man from MI6 to irritate me. I loved the technical aspects of covert operations, the ...more

What an amazing story. I couldn't put it down. An action-packed, adrenaline-pumping novel from an author who has first-hand experience of the devasting reality of war and the greed and corruption of those looking to profit from it.

The story follows SAS trooper Danny Black who is dispatched to Syria to guard an MI6 agent sent to make contact with Syrian rebel forces. Immediately things turn sour and as Black's struggle to carry out his mission begins, some revelations start to unfold.

I liked this book, it was a fun read. There was an aspect that I confess I saw coming, but it was done slowly so in a way if felt like the author was trying to lead me to that conclusion and then gave me the fun of telling me I was right.
I would recommend this book for those interested in this particular genre.

Loved this, Chris Ryan delivered another great read. After reading any of his books I am always left with a niggling worry that some of it might actually be true. Sadly there are always people ready to do anything for the right price.

This book is dark and brutal. A lot more so than other Chris Ryan books, however I think this is personally one of his best books ever written. If you are a fan of Chris Ryan and not shy of the squeamish definitely pick this book up

Chris Ryan provides an explosive novel. I stumbled across him by accident. Most of his books are not published in the US so I purchase them through a UK bookstore.
