I learnt a lot of new things about the evolution of these two languages in the past two centuries, the similarities and common roots/influences from Sanskrit, Arabic, Persian and English, and not to mention the politics of religious and national identity that drove the two languages apart. I would have got a lot more out of it if I knew about the linguistic terminology and analysis. For those interested you can find the book here http://hindiurduflagship.org/resource...
