Disclaimer: This ARC was given to me for free in exchange for an honest review from Netgalley.

I found the narration really hackneyed. Also not very body positive. She assumes that her "fat" experience is like everyone else's (she's been both fat and skinny). Apparently in her experience men only like skinny women, which is bullshit. She kept mentioning her personal history and I was like I don't care. Also, apparently if your serotonin levels are low and you are chronically depressed you should

First off, I agree strongly that it would be a better book if the reader was given meal planning ideas to choose from rather than very specific recipes to follow.

I also took offense to the authors frequent use of the phrase "going crazy." Depression doesn't make someone "crazy." It is an insensitive phrase that many readers may take offense to.

While I knew that the book was based on weight loss, the author points out that we are judged by our weight. Now granted, she does go onto say "I feed my

Serotonin Revolution is a very friendly, easy to read/follow diet plan focusing on balancing hormones to keep cravings and mood swings under control while still losing weight. For once, we have a diet book written by someone who has had weight issues most of her young life rather than a medical doctor making it seen so easy. But a promised 'simple variation on normal dinners' never materialized in the actual recipes. And

I received this book through first reads.

When I received this book I was so excited! I quickly dove into it. It didn't take long to read as it is mostly recipes, containing only about 35 pages of actual "information". The concept is easy to understand and Turner makes complete sense as she talks (though very briefly) about each of the relevant hormone offenders that are making us fat. I wish she discussed each hormone in a little more depth, or at least listed several good places for further re

My review cross-posted from Wit and Sin:

The Serotonin Revolution has a lot of promise. Author Lowri Turner has written a logical, convincing argument for balancing your hormones for weight loss. What’s more helpful, Ms. Turner helps readers determine if it’s their serotonin, dopamine, leptin and/or adrenal levels that are imbalanced. The Serotonin Revolution isn’t about limiting calories or doing any insane fad-diet routine, which I appreciated. The f

Full disclosure: I was chosen a First Reads winner, and received an Advance Reading Copy with black-and-white photographs of The Seratonin Revolution: The Low-Carb Diet That Won't Make You Crazy in the mail.

Seratonin isn't a new topic to me, but I still found the book to be very helpful and well-written, and it contains quite a lot of valuable information for someone who is trying to get his or her eating habits under control and/or to make a change in eating strategy.

The book has three section

I thought this book made a lot of sense.
We know by now that low fat, or low carb or any kind of diet that is too low in something doesn't really work. I believe that you need to give your body a bit of everything and can't starve it of one type of food.

The science behind the hormones makes sense to me, and I could identify myself in the quizzes.
The text part is very short. maybe too short....the meal plans look delicious, but there isn't a lot of choice, which I don't like. I'm sure you can su

Apparently, I don't fit into any of the scientifically-based categories. Or, more accurately, I fit into the only one that does NOT have a specific diet plan. The author says, if you fit into that category, use the one of the other three that was your runner-up on the quiz. Except there really was no runner up. I barely fit into any of her categories at all. As a result, I was unimpressed by this book and it's claims for long-lasting weight loss. There are recipes in the book that sound good, ...more

Recommends it for: For those on a Low-Carb diet by choice
Although the reasoning and the recipes in this book are good, the title of being a low-carb cookbook are quite misleading. For anyone on a diabetic low-carb diet, you may want to look elsewhere as quite a few of the recipes are high carb - ie: Pollock with Salsa Verde & Carrot Puree has 89g carbohydrates per serving!

I do understand that this book focuses on carbs and serotonin, but when the subtitle says "The Low-Carb Diet That Won't Make You Crazy", I'm expecting something with regards to l

I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway. I really loved the descriptions of the science behind the diet, and why eating certain things can boost certain hormones, but the recipes themselves didn't sound very appetizing to me. However, on page 17, there was a description of PCOS and the symptoms, which totally fit some of the symptoms I've been having, so I'm definitely going to do more research and get with my doctor. Thank you very much to the author for possibly helping me solve the mystery of ...more

I won this from Goodreads and was so excited to receive my copy. The information in this book is priceless AND the quiz to find out which diet one should follow is so helpful. Here is why I only gave this book three stars: the recipes are crazy! As a mother of a toddler, I need recipes that are quick and easy to follow, and that are things I can share with my son, and very few of the recipes herein are easy and quick. I wish they were, because the rest of this book is wonderful-- super ...more

First of all, thank you Goodreads for my copy of The Serotonin Revolution: The Low-Carb Diet That Won't Make You Crazy.

I'm very skeptical about diet books. I've read many in my lifetime. This one was written well. The science part wasn't too techie. I've got a much better understanding of the hormones that are involved in mood, appetite and weight. The questionnaires helped to zero in on which areas I need help with. There are a lot of recipes that I'm going to try out. All in all, it's a nice l

The introduction about the different types of hormones and dietary needs was interesting. I enjoyed completing the quiz pinpointing the type of diet one should follow.

The recipes, however, are too rigid. They sound delicious, but most are labour-intensive using some fairly specific ingredients. It'd be much more useful to get ideas for ingredient combinations that work for balancing hormones.

All the lessons for dieting stated again. If you are looking for a quick, easy fix, don't look here. This book tells you all the real, guaranteed to work lessons that people don't want to listen to. The book did state all these lessons in a very dry, scientific way that probably won't appeal to most people.

I won this book in a goodreads giveaway. It's very easy to read, and the diet plan seems simple to follow. I was able to sit down and read through the beginning part of the book, understand what the diet focused on and what I would need to do to jump start the life style change. The back of the book has several recipes, which sound delicious.

Won this book through the Goodreads First Reads program. Cannot wait to receive it and give this plan a try! Review to come!

This book lacks positive body image but otherwise it was a very interesting read. I think I may give a few of the recipes a try and see if I notice any difference as I'm not sure how much a particularly believe in the serotonin issue causing weight gain.

An okey weight loss book. I wish the author spent less time telling her life story and more of giving healthy eating suggestion. The reciepes are so specific and some of them have ingredient I am allergic too. But there is some wiggle room. In the end a decent way to try to loes weight.

I received The Serotonin Revolution as a Goodreads Giveaway. I did not enter the giveaway to follow a strict diet but rather for the recipes. I like almost all of the recipes! The book is nice and simple. I would have rated it higher if there were color pictures.

I an ARC thru goodreads. It has some interesting recipes and suggested diet plans formed from those recipes. I have found I need more flexibility in a diet plan for me to stick with it.
