It seems like I am a terrible romance-book picker. So far, there isn't anyone that I had like. And this one goes into the lot too. The premise for the story sounds interesting, a teenager discovers that her father was the one who kidnapped her from her real mother because she was unfit for both of them. Sounds okay, but the reasons leading to this conclusion are somewhat illogical and nonsensical.

Good. It is just that it takes Belva Plain 400 pages to say what could have been said in 200 pages

Unlike Homecoming, this book just seemed to go on and on.
I don't see why (since later in the story Lillian isn't that much of a big deal anymore) the author had to stress on Lillian and Donald's past life so much. There were way too many details. That's saying much, coming from me. I usually love details, but only when they're relevant or amusing. They were completely pointless in this book, and wasted a lot of my time.

Donald Wolf marries a woman who he thought was perfect, but finds out that she can love no one. She only wishes for wealth & more wealth. Their marriage ends after 2 years, however she is pregnant with a child. Donald wanted a baby boy.
It was interesting to see how quickly Donald was totally won over by his baby girl's smile.
At one point Donald must decide whether to take the baby and leave his comfortable life as a NY lawyer.
I like the way Ms Plain tells the story.

I had high expectations for this book and was severely disappointed. The plot was very promising, about a daughter who discovers, as an adult, that her loving and devoted father had kidnapped her when she was two. One of the major problems with the book is that she was still two years old half way through the story.
This book had a lot of potential, but the author ruined it on so many levels. In fact, for those interested in writing, it was a helpful read on what NOT to do, because t More...

An interesting premise is ruined by bloated and leaden prose, sluggish pacing, telegraphed events, unbelievable characters and lazy writing. As one reviewer said, the whole story could have been told in half the length. The writer all too frequently begins sentences, "Still...", "On the other hand....", "yet...."

I put it down on page 46. I'm sorry to say it, but what drudgery!
This book (at least in the first 3 1/2 chapters) feels like 95% tell and only 5% show. 95% exposition and only 5% dialogue and action. Maybe it changes, but I couldn't hang in there long enough to find out.

took about 130 pages before i was into this book but after that, i really enjoyed the story. after a short time with his daughter's wife, he discovers that she is an unfit mother and decides to kidnap his 2 year old daughter. probably more like 3.5 stars than 4.

Intense, with beautifully crafted characters. Heartbreaking, and hard to put down. I lost count of how many nights I stayed up past midnight just trying to get to the next chapter.

I really liked this book, it was about a child kidnapping but from the point of view of the Kidnapper. The kidnapper being the father and he saw that his ex was an unfit parent. This kidnapper changed his whole life, career, and being to shelter his daughter for over 20 years.

This is the second book I've read recently about a daughter being taken by her father and the trials and tribulations both families experienced. Both had "happy" endings, so to speak! If you like Belva Plain, I recommend this book!

I have enjoyed every Belva Plain novel I have read. All are easy-to-read with likable characters in hideous situations, although outcomes are slightly predictable.

I wasn't too sure about this book; it started of slow and I felt like it was not going to live up to the epic Evergreen. But I was won over, and it was a good fluffy read. Ms. Plain does a great job making characters that are good people and that is always refreshing.

The book started out good but at the end it finished too quick.
It left alot unsaid and the reader with unanswered questions.

This is the first book I've read by Belva Plain---and I'm going back for more! I appreciated her sensitive handling of a hard topic.

Belva Plain never fails. It is so easy for me to "become" the character. i hate to have her books end. I could go on and on and on.

Father "steals" his daughter to protect her from her mothers lifestyle.

This book was a very quick read for me. I didn't want to put it down. It's about a very successful guy that gets married to the wrong women, and then gives up everything to "save" his daughter. I already gave away too much, so I'm not saying anymore.

Thought the story line looked interesting; only liked it so-so (reader's voice was a bit of a distraction).

Listened to on tape. Didn’t really like the reader’s voice, which influenced my opinion of the book. Was not at all found of the “hero” and so was not impressed with the book. It was an ok book to listen to in the car.

This is an old Belva Plain-but it was good. A girl raised by her father who had kidnapped her from an "unfit" mother when she was an infant-interesting story

I found this book at someone's house and was desperate for something to read. It turned out to be a really good book. It would make a good Lifetime movie.
