"Please Lord don't let him find me, Please Lord don't let him find me" I cried out this prayer in desperation for some kind of help, someone to rescue me from my childhood of fear and abuse but nobody came. I sought safety when and where I could find it - in the cornfield, under the bed, behind the couch or in the forest, rocking back and forth, tears blurring my vision. I...more

An Ultimately Hopeful Story of a Brutal Childhood

CW Seymore’s gripping memoirs, Shards of Glass, left me feeling breathless in places. She paints a picture of a father’s brutality with language that is clear, fast-paced and evocative. Seymore’s book serves as both a call to arms and as an anthem for those of her readers who have also endured great suffering and abuse. It is my hope that fellow victims of domestic violence and physical, emotional and sexual abuse will draw courage and strength fr...more

You've seen this girl. You may even know her. You've seen her suddenly flare up and lash out in anger at a classmate. You've heard her explode with 4-letter expletives. She smokes, does some pot, even sleeps around a bit. In your eyes, she's "not a nice girl" but then, your eyes haven't seen what she has; your body hasn't suffered what hers has; your mind hasn't experienced the fear hers felt as she ran frightened into the bushes at night, praying "Please lord, don't let him find me!"

CW Seymore wrote a heartbreaking yet hopeful book. She witnessed extreme domestic violence and was the victim of unrelenting and unbearable child abuse. She sought safety by sleeping alone in the woods rather than in her own bedroom with her sisters. But was she ever safe from the emotional torture and mental cruelty? She sought salvation in faith and sports, attaining a sense of value and worth that was not offered in her home.

Seymore documented her life to bring awareness to the epidemic of ab...more

I had the honor of receiving a coveted, signed copy of Shards of Glass from CW, herself. I have to say that Shards of Glass was a very intense read. It's a story of survival told from the point of view of the survivor, CW Seymore. This is a true story that speaks to many of us who are child abuse survivors. As a survivor of child abuse, I could relate to the deep and intense emotions and the confusion that the child goes through when they are being abused. This story is a spiritual journey of ho...more

"Shards of Glass" by CW Seymore is an intense and at times uncomfortable look at a womans childhood and upbringing by abusive parents. Sexual abuse, violence and emotional cruelty mark a tragic life that our heroine describes in short snapshots.
The book appears like a personal cathartic re-living of the pain and offers invaluable insight into the mental state of mind that survivors of such abuse can be driven into.
Admittedly, at times I found the religious aspect of the author's survival over em...more

This book speaks to the hidden aspects of child psychological, physical, and sexual abuse from the inside; by the victim. Having worked in law enforcement for 30 years, and having investigated many such cases, I found this book to be heart wrenching. I wish to speak further about this work but fear that I might impose upon future readers. Recommend, especially for victims of domestic abuse.

This is an excellent true to life story about Seymore and the abusive childhood she suffered. I am not an advocate of religion, but that is where she found her strength. Religious or not, you should enjoy this story of survival.
