Joss Whedon is a writer full of great ideas, and his works and motifs are analyzed here in-depth. Ideally, one should watch all of Alien: Resurrection, Buffy the Vampire Slayer (including post-season 7 comics), Angel, Firefly, Serenity, Dollhouse, and The Avengers since this book contains spoilers pertaining to those titles. A wonderful book on Whedon for both total novices and long-term Whedon fans. Lavery's approach is very fresh and quite apropos to his subject -- a study of creativity more than a straight-up biography -- and his writing is as fun and accessible as it is erudite and researched. Lavery has been a master of TV Studies for some time, and with this book he shows himself quite adept at Auteur Theory, as well.

The only reason I'm giving this four stars instead of five, is that I read it online via Scribd and the formatting was kinda screwy in places.

great overview of Whedons life/works... fantastic to read something that was published in 2014 as it includes everything up to The Avengers. Recommended reading for any die-hard Whedonite.
