The Experiment

Rate this book
Time is running out for the Collaborative's oppressive rule of the remote world Senca One. The government attempts to suppress the escalating riots, even while seeking to further their experiments. When their parents are taken, triplets Juliet, Cilla, and Emiah Tripp set out to locate them, and soon discover they are at the center of a hunt to capture THEM.

Evading the Collaborative across Seneca One’s harsh terrain, they’re confronted with the trials of survival. They also discover something that changes the very core of what they are: they’re morphs. Struggling to adapt to the strange new ability, they question what they really are . . . and why. Are the rumors of experiments done on children true? Did their scientist parents have anything to do with it?

Their quest brings them to the capitol city of Brighton, which is on the verge of revolt. While searching for information about their parents, the Tripps align themselves with the very people fueling the rebellion. They unwittingly spark the revolution they want no part of and discover something more dangerous than they suspected.

The Experiment fits together seamlessly despite having three different narrators, and three separate authors. I did doubt whether this would work, not having read a book of this kind before, (hence it being 'an experiment'), but I feel that Sherry Gammon, Cindy C Bennett and Jeffery Moore have written an imaginative and intriguing story.
The children all have very unique voices - Emiah is the most distrustful but he is inquisitive and wants to be accepted. Juliet is the leader of the group, the one who formulates the plans, but there is an element of competition with her sister. Cilla really dislikes what she has become and needs support to adapt. As a group though they are a strong family unit and the reader sees them defend each other during their journey.
There is obviously some fact in The Experiment as gene splicing currently takes place but I am not sure if the authors are making any political statement with their story.
Admittedly I found the neat HEA weak but then I am not sure how I would have chosen to end The Experiment if it had been my story. The authors have tied up the threads and not leave any room for a sequel but I hope that they possibly have another project in the pipeline as this was a success.

MY INITIAL THOUGHTS WHILST READING
Not a only a Dystopian story this seem to has Sci-Fi and Shifer elements to it too. I like the idea of the shifters and can't wait to see what Cilla and Emiah will be able to morph to.
Initially I found the names and characters a little confusing. As in Juliet, nick named Jules seemed to have a usually male type of role, and Emiah nicknames Em seemed to be a more reserved female type of character.

MY REVIEW
I received this e-book form the Authors, Sherry, Jeffrey & Cindy. The cover is okay, I see the planet in the back ground, as the children left earth and live on Senca One. Then there's the three characters . . . did I imagine them to look as they do? Not particularly, in that I'd find it difficult to choose which of the girls was which, if pushed I'd say the one with the long blonde hair would be Cilla and the more determined looking one would have to be Juliet.
I like the quote/byline on the book "They were not supposed to happen" it is a really fitting quote. The quote fits a few scenario's in the book. Firstly, as apparently on Earth it is illegal to have multiples ie. twins or triplets so the Tripp family escape to Senca One. It also fits that what the children can do (in morphing) is also (. . . not supposed to happen). And another thing that fits the byline is that further into the book we find out a large secret about the Tripp parents, which ". . . were not supposed to happen"
Would the cover make me pick up the book in a bookstore? Being totally honest and truthful, sadly maybe be not. Why "sadly"? Because the book itself really is a really good read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. What do I think to the blurb? The blurb definitely catches my interest and would make me want to buy the book.
So the basic story is the Tripp family have been hiding out on Senco one then one day the Collaborative/Trolls take the parents and place them under arrest. The children manage to escape into the forest. That day seriously changes their lives. Juliet is attacked by a crimson eagle, and suffers a deadly fever. Emiah and Cilla look after her as best they can. Juliet survives the fever but is "changed" she can morph into the very animal that attacked her, a Crimson Eagle. Slowly as the story develops the other two characters find are attacked and find out what their "morph animals" are. It's really hard trying to talk in detail about the book without giving away the others talents. They three siblings also meet up with other great characters and are gradually "paired off" Jules finds herself with Brax who also seems to have "supernatural elements" in him too. Then there's Marius who is the self appointed leader of those who wish to rebel against the Collaborative and their laws. And there's Halidor who is also working deep within the rebellion.
The three siblings have to decide whether they want to just concentrate on rescuing their parents, or getting caught up in the rebellion's cause. Can either one be separated from the other? Or do they just go hand in hand?
There's intrigue, drama, betrayals, mysteries, suspense and of course some romance too.
I like the way that the book is written by three different Authors, each taking a different character to write for. In my opinion it works really really well. There was just once in the book I was a little confused, when something happens to the crimson eagle and you get the scene from different angles from the different characters. I had a moment of like "hey, hasn't that just happened? Why are we going on about it again? but then I read on and saw it was kind of necessary to tell the same scene again from the point of view from another character.
I love that three great authors in their own right are coming together to write another brilliant book together.
So did I enjoy the book? Yes, I really did. Even the fact I was ill during reading the book, the book really kept me interested. Would you recommend the book? Definitely, it has dystopian aspects, among lots of others so I think it will to lovers of a lot of genres!. Would you read a book two in the series? I definitely would like to read another book in the series, though I'm not totally sure there will be one as there are the three chapters at the end. Maybe we can have a book on all that happens between the end of the first book and the add on chapters at the end. Would you read other books by these individual Authors? I have actually read one by Cindy C Bennett already and I would certainly check out titles by all three Authors. Would you read other books by more than one author? Yes I think this book really worked well so I would certainly consider more.

The Experiment is a fun, fast-paced story of speculative fiction. Julia, Cilla, and Emiah are triplets born from an experiment and whisked away to another planet before they ever find out who they really are. Since triplets are forbidden on earth, and their parents want to keep them together, they are forced into hiding. As they grow into teenagers, strange changes take place and the triplets speculate that they were an experiment, having their DNA spliced with other world creatures. The experiment begins to show itself when the triplets discover their abilities to morph into these creatures. Together, and with the help of some friends (and romantic interests) along the way, they go on a quest to find their parents who have been kidnapped by the oppressive government. Without giving away too much of the story, the triplets face many decisions in friendship, trust, romance, and ultimately whether they should use their gifts to help aid in a revolution that could change the lives of many.

I was very intrigued by the idea of this book before I ever even knew what it was about. The story is a collaborative work by three different authors: Cindy C Bennett, Sherry Gammon, and Jeffery Moore. The chapters are told in first person by the three different main characters. Each author picked a character, and wrote a chapter in turn. I was actually a little surprised by how fluid the story was. I expected the characters to be so drastically different that the chapters would be obvious as to who was speaking. But I kept finding myself looking back at the chapter heading, cause I got confused about who was talking. I think this is both a good and a bad thing. I think it's amazing that the authors were able to work together so well that the story really feels consistent and it keeps the same steady voice throughout. But occasionally I did feel a little confused. Cilla and Juliet, although different, were both very strong females. Sometimes it was hard to keep them straight.

The only other thing I had a hard time with was visualizing this planet, Senca One. There were a lot of pop culture references and references to earth items that made it hard for me to separate the setting as a distinct planet. But since the people of Senca One originally came from earth, I guess there is bound to be some crossover. I felt a little removed from the story a couple times because of modern references.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book! I would definitely give it 4 out of 5 stars! The characters were strong and funny, the romances were sweet, and the storyline was constantly moving. There was too much action to ever be bored! I would definitely recommend this book to older teens and young adults!

3.5 stars (would have been 4 stars but the ending...ugh)

I'm so happy to be a part of the tour for The Experiment. I'm always intrigued by new ways of writing and these three authors have done something very interesting. They have each written their own parts through a character but have collaborated together with each other to bring together a very interesting novel. I think it's pretty cool.

I really enjoyed this book. The plot was always forward moving and didn't drag at all. The characters were all distinct and definable. They are on a quest to save their parents and along the way they discover more than they ever thought possible. There is romance, adventure and intrigue all set in a futuristic other world but a world full of oppression and inequality which are things we all can relate to. The morphing thing was cool. I like how it all came down for the triplets and how they all worked together to understand and make the morphing work for them.

This was a book that I wish actually had a sequel. I know, crazy, right? Usually I am so bothered by having to wait for a sequel but I'll tell you why I say that. The ending for me was just off. The Epilogue (five years after the end of the story) was long and honestly felt just out of sync with the rest of the book. I would much rather have had it end and then picked up with more of the in between in another book. I don't know. It felt less thought out and more thrown together. If I could get rid of the epilogue and just end the book with another book to come I would have been happier. BUT, I did really enjoy this book. It was a great read and I'll be handing this one off to my older teenage daughter.

Content: a couple instances of mild swearing, a lot of nakedness. (morphing leads to naked and there was an awful lot of morphing, therefore, a lot of nakedness. And they say it over and over. It got a bit repetitive. Emiah seems to enjoy the nakedness more than anyone)

*Just as a side note, my daughter read this book as well and said the EXACT same thing as I wrote in my review. She really liked it, did not like the ending (epilogue) and said that the talking about the naked stuff got old. We both found the same inconsistencies in the epilogue. I didn't even say anything to her at all about what I thought about the book.

This book was sooo amazing and incredible! I couldn't put it down! it was full of adventure, intrigue and the most amazing people and creatures I have read about in a long time! Sherry Gammon, Cindy C Bennett, and Jeffrey Moore really rocked it by putting this incredible book together!

Emiah , Juliet and Cillia have been on the run ever since the night their parents went missing and the Collaborative "trolls" came to the village braking in and tried to take them as well. With only each other to count on they must race across the Waste of Seneca One and find their missing parents, but the harshness of the Waste proves to be just as harsh as people claim and when Juliet is attacked by Crimson Eagles Cilla and Emiah must put their trust in Brax a boy of the Wasteland Jungle to help them and their sister.

As the Triplets uncover more about themselves with each new horrific task set before them, they also start to uncover the many secrets that there parents never told them. Where they really some secret government experiment? Did there parents alter them in some way? There is only one way to find out, find their parents and ask them.

With the help of some amazing friends, and some pretty awesome powers of their own the three embark on the hardest journey of their young lives. What does Kill you makes you stronger right? Well lets hope so because they are going to need all they have for when the people rise up and fight the injustices done to them for a millennia of suffering at the same time that they are trying to free their parents. Can they just stand by and let the people suffer? or can they help them at the same time as helping themselves?

what an amazing and incredible book!the characters where really spectacular! Juliet and Brax where my favs! they were a great team and I just loved them to pieces!

The "trolls" were awesome bad guys! it was like they were around every corner, ready to capture the kids at a moments notice. They were nasty and bad tempered just like trolls would be and I loved watching the kids get the upper hand on them time and time again.

Sherry Gammon, Cindy C Bennett, and Jeffrey Moore are incredible authors! I really loved this book! and I highly recommend it to one and all! if you haven't read this yet you MUST get it NOW!

This book had a great Sci Fi meets Dystopian feel. The three main characters, siblings, are what every parent dreams of. They are loyal to each other. They take care of each other and they always put each other first.

The moment they sense something is off, they work together to hide in the forest. Each child has their unique talents, personalities and a LOT to learn about themselves and each other.

They thought they were on planet Seneca One because their scientist parents broke a child limit law on Earth and escaped to Seneca One to keep them safe. Little did they know that secrets, horrors and unimaginable truths that would surface as they make their way to where they think their parents have been taken.

The three kids meet unimaginable creatures, people with special gifts and the corruption that has taken over with the Collaberative in control.

I truly enjoyed this book. One author writing a book is an amazing experience. To read a book written by three authors in an amazing collaboration is an honor.

Enjoy!!!

The Experiment is a very interesting book. Three authors take turns telling the story of triplets, Emiah, Cilla, & Juliet, each writing a different sibling point of view.

I found this book to be very well written and it flows very well from character to character, you have no idea while reading it that there are three authors.

This book is filled with action, adventure, danger, mystery, & romance. There is also a HUGE twist towards the end that I didn't see coming.
