She’s his best friend’s sister…

From cradle to grave, Derek and Keith grew up together, enlisted, served, and rose through the ranks together. I loved this story. The moral, in my opinion, Don't ask people to make promises that their hearts can't keep. Sometimes family tries so hard to "do what's right" for their loved ones, that they actually screw up their lives.
Romance Novels in Color
Whenever I realize one of Heather Long’s books from the Always A Marine series has been released, I usually jump at the chance to read it. Can you imagine my jubilation when I learned Book 16, Marine With Benefits, is already available when only a short time ago I had read Book 15? Long has covered several romance tropes in the series, but this time around the trope of choice is the best friend’s sibling.

I love me some story lines with the older brother’s best friend is in love with the little sister. You just can’t go wrong on that plot line. That is exactly what Marine with Benefits was except the twist that they have both signed up for a one-night stand and do not realize that their date is each other until show time. It is a super quick story to read about a forbidden love (Keith refused to let Derek be anything but Kara’s friend) that gets hot when the truth comes out. ~Bookwhisperer ...more

This is the 16th story in the Always a Marine series from Long and tells the story of physical therapist Kara and marine Derek. Working at Mike's Place as a physical therapist Kara's life is at a standstill; including her unrequited love for her brother's best friend, Derek. The only thing left to do is to get over him and the only way to do that is to go to Madame Eve. Derek has always had a thing for Kara but he made a promise to his best friend, Keith, that he's not willing to break - until ...more

Marine With Benefits is the sixteenth book in the Always a Marine series by Heather Long. While this book is part of a series it can be read and enjoyed as a standalone novel. I chose this book because the summary piqued my interest.
Kara Childs works at a veteran’s rehabilitation facility. It helps her feel closer to her brother who passes away during his deployment. She also lost

IR Military Romance
Derek and Keith were best friends their whole lives. They did everything together including joining the Marines. Keith made Derek promise to take care of his little sister Kara if anything should happen to him. The worst has happened and Keith won’t ever be coming home. Kara is all grown up and working at Mike’s Place. She has always had a crush on Derek but he has consistently shot her down. It is time to move on with her life so she signs up with Madame Eve’s 1NS service to

"Marine with Benefits", the 16th story in the "Always a Marine" series (17th overall), was sweet and took on the idea of two people who have known each other almost their whole lives and who both have feelings for one another. Keith was Derek's best friend, from the time they were in kindergarten 'til Keith was killed while they were both in the Marines, and the one promise he intends to keep is that he would always watch over Keith's sister, Kara, making her also the one thing he can never have ...more

Thanks again to Heather Long and Decadent Publishing for owning me with another amazing Marine story!! I am sad that this will be the last Marine until November-ish. However, this was a great way to wrap up the summer releases of Heather's Marines.

Kara is the sister of Keith, a fallen Marine and works at Mike's Place. Derek is Keith's best friend and has been in love with Kara for years. Derek has relocated and will also be working at Mike's Place, though Kara doesn't know that. Both of them si

Disclaimer: I received an ARC copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

In Marine With Benefits, the latest novella in Heather Long’s popular “Always a Marine Series,” Madame Eve’s 1NS (One Night Stand) service pairs Kara and Derek up for one night of no-holds barred passion. Derek is Keith’s (Kara’s deceased older brother) best friend, and off limits. Both have been fighting, what each thought was a one-sided attraction, since they were teenagers. Once they realize they are paired

This was a great quick read. Kara's brother Kevin was best friends with Derek, they did everything together, even enlisting. Derek was the one to bring home Kevin's body when he was killed in Afghanistan and be the shoulder Kara needed to lean on. They both signed up for a 1night stand and wouldn't you know it they are each others date. I found it pretty comical when Derek was pissed that Kara was looking to hook up with someone for just one night when he was doing the same thing.

This one was very sweet. I liked how Derek thought he was doing what his friend wanted him to by staying away from his sister. I loved how Kara chewed Derek out when they met for the date, it was just what he needed to see that he could still be true to his friend and have the woman that he wanted.

I had a lot of fun with Kara and Derek. Both stubborn. Both determined. Each in love with the other. I liked them both. Derek was a good man, and Kara was full of fire. Great chemistry and a nice HEA.

National bestselling author Heather Long likes long walks in the park, science fiction, superheroes, Marines, and men who aren’t douche bags. She writes snarky women tangled in romance as hot as Texas summertime. From paranormal historical westerns to contemporary military romance, Heather might switch genres, but one thing is true in all of her stories—the characters drive the books. When she’s ...more
