Choose A Man Or Be Left Behind!

So said the code of the West for women alone on wagon trains. But newly widowed Jessica Beaumont had a baby on the way, and what kind of man would willingly take on another man's child? Apparently the rugged, handsome kind, for wagon-train scout Finn Carson staked his claim on her early...and swore never to let go!

I'm trying to decide what to rate it. Probably to . I really like this author, although she's not everyone's cuppa-tea (some think her too dull); she is a comfort read for me, as I know what I'm getting: a straight-forward, old-fashioned frontier romance. However, this time around she added quite a bit more Romantic Suspense.

In this one the heroine is widowed on the wagon train trail west and must choose another husband or go back east at the next settlement. She happens to be pregnant. Howeve

No "Beautifully Damaged" Here!

I have been in the worst reading slump of my life. My. Joy. Gone. Devastating I tell you! But @ last, it came back to me w/this book. It was all the NA contempts that killed my joy. It took a good old-fashion frontier H & h to restore it. I found reading about a wagon train & frontier life enthralling. The H&h were passionate & sexy. I luv'd how committed the H was to the h. Tragic things happened in this book, but nobody was depressed or "beautifull
I felt like I was reading a Harlequin Presents instead of a Historical. The heroine was so wishy washy that I just wanted to scream. The hero alternated between lying to her to meet his own needs and worshiping her from afar. Between the two of them, I wanted to bitch slap someone. Not to mention the cover couple - ugh! He's supposed to be 26 yet he looks like he's almost 40. She's supposed to be 24 yet she looks barely 18. Neither resemble their descriptions in the book. 1.5 stars at best.

I really liked this book. It featured some of my absolute all time favorite themes. And Carolyn Davidson is one of my favorite authors for historical western romances.

Carolyn Davidson began writing in 1986, knowing absolutely nothing about the craft. Her first three books were rejected by Harlequin.

She met Dixie Browning at a Harlequin dinner in Charleston, South Carolina, and told Dixie she was writing, but that she feared she was too old to begin such an undertaking. Dixie's response spurred Carolyn to pursue her dream. Dixie said, in her own inimitable fashi
