I’m really not sure what to think of this book. It was short. Probably too short. I wish it would have been longer. I wish the plot and characters were expanded upon. That says a lot right there. I wanted more.

All of my next complaints could have been easily solved with simply a longer book. I cannot stress enough how much potential this had to be crazy interesting for me. But everything just whizzed by and the setups were predictable.

I found the world interesting. I wanted the opportunity to le

A Song of Betrayal is a solid introduction to a new fantasy series. It features an interesting setup with interesting characters and a unique take on the genre.

The story is called the Adventures of Weylin, but the title character takes a back seat to the character that is seeking him, a man called Falk. Falk has a multi-layered personality, and it takes a minute to see past his charisma and easygoing nature. He is on a mission to find Weylin, a legendary fighter turned outcast who is key to Falk

I always like to explore new worlds when reading. That is the great appeal of the fantasy genre. In this story we are introduced to the world of Harren, a world ruled over by a race of beings called the Balauri. The Balauri have two factions, the outcasts, and the ones loyal to the queen.

The story centers around two characters named Faulk and Weylin. They are both Balauri outcasts. Faulk recruits Weylin to lead his forces against the queen to overthrow them. Together they go on a trip across the

Jesse Duckworth’s “A Song of Betrayal” is a fun fantasy read, and excellent introduction to the world of Harren. There is excellent depth and breadth in a world that clearly has a history and characters that live and breathe on the page.

Duckworth tells the story of Weylin, and through him we start to understand the race called Balauri, and their rich, divided history. Weylin has somehow fallen from grace and been banished from his homeland in disgrace.

A fantasy work, this short novella is the first in a planned trilogy about Weylin, a member of the race of Balauri, who has fallen from grace and has been on the run for ummmm centuries, I think. The book is the story of his most recent travels to reach a hidden community of outcasts, and whose traveling companion seems mighty suspicious.

Balauris have eternal life. They can't die. I don't read much fantasy, but when I do, I look for something unique, something different that sets it apart from a

My name is Jesse Duckworth and I primarily write fantasy. A friend and I co-created a world in 2007 and after just over 5 years of creating and writing, I am trying to get some of our works out there for people to read. My debut novella, A Song of Betrayal, was released on Amazon on September 1st, 2013. In addition, I have many short stories that will either end up on here or will be published on ...more
