“The Gateway is open...”

These cryptic words wake college student Jess Ballard from a terrifying dream into an even more terrifying reality. Jess' life has never been what anyone would call easy; doing damage control in the wake of your nomadic, alcoholic mother doesn't exactly make for a storybook childhood. But now her world has fallen apart just when it should be coming

I found this book by chance on a Facebook ad. I normally ignore them, but for whatever reason I followed the link, the book sounded intriguing enough and the price was decent, so I bought it on Amazon. Then, it sat on my TBR shelf for over a year, forgotten. I haven't heard anything about it or the author. None of my friends or people that I follow have read it, so to be honest, I was wary of it. I've had a lot of bad luck with unknown authors and non-mainstream books. Then came a reading challe ...more

I'm always slightly wary of buying fantasy books on kindle, as there are so many out there that are either too badly written/edited/proofread to bother with, or where the lack of polish prevents me from enjoying the book fully. This was a very pleasant surprise - the writing was smooth and mature, the characters well-drawn and believable, the storyline tight and gripping. I kept putting it down because I wanted to make it last longer, then picking it up again because I needed to find out what ha ...more

The first half of this book did not pull me in like I thought it would. I guess my expectations were high because of the reviews I read. When I was about 45% into this book, I seriously thought about either skimming pages to see what happened or put the book down and try again at a later date.

Because of all the great reviews, I decided to keep reading, and boy am I glad I did! All of a sudden this book grabbed my complete attention. It hooked me in, and now I am excited for book 2!!

Spirit Legacy by E.E. Holmes
I received this book in exchange for an honest review by the Author and the “Lovers of Paranormal” Group on Goodreads.com
This is a brilliant book, that I did not want to end. The plot is very well crafted. The writing style is rich and descriptive, and flows smoothly ... and is surprisingly mature for a YA book. The characters are well described. This book is a real page turner that will have you hooked until the very end. Although it is the first book of a trilogy, t

Chanticleer Book Reviews Editorial
An engaging Young Adult paranormal/thriller novel that follows a sharp-witted young woman with, as she puts it, “isolationist tendencies,” whose discovery of her psychic talents is only the beginning of her singular coming-of-age journey.

Jess Ballard knows how to survive—she has to, having spent her life on the move with her alcoholic mother, whose personal demons kept them running. When Elizabeth Ballard dies in a fall, Jess heads to Boston to attend St. Matthew’s College, and to shelter in the

Although the target audience for "Spirit Legacy" is young adult and I am very far from being that (young, that is), I found this a highly-engaging read that I think is appropriate for all ages. The challenges of friendship, mystery and fortitude faced by the protagonist will resonate with nearly everybody.

wow - loved this book

All Jess's life its just been her and her mum until one fateful night where her mum dies - everyone thinks it was suicided but Jess isn't convinced.
After her mother's death she moves in with her aunt her mum's twin sister Karen who she hadn't met before now. Things are awkward but thankful she soon moves on to University where she is on a full scholarship. "Spirit Legacy by E.E. Holmes
I received this book in exchange for an honest review by the Author and the “Lovers of Paranormal” Group on Goodreads.com, Thank you for this wonderful opportunity!

When I first read the description for this book, I thought it sounded interesting and hoped for the best. I was blown away and pleasantly surprised! This book is amazing!
The only reason I gave it four and not five stars (I would have given it four and a half), is because it started out slow, but once it

I got this book from the author , free of cost, in exchange of an honest review from my side.

Firstly I would like to thank E.E. Holmes, author of Spirit Legacy, for giving me this wonderful opportunity of reading and reviewing this awesome book.

This book is a total surprise for me. When I first came across the blurb, I liked it a lot and the 5 starer reviews really compelled me to sign up for reviewing this book though I wasn't quite impressed by it's cover but when I read the story, BOOM!I was

4.0 easily, maybe closer to a 4.5. This book got so many good reviews that I couldn’t resist. (The fact that it was only $3.99 didn’t hurt either!) I like a little romance in my books, so I was almost leery of getting this one, but I got what I asked for … a little romance … almost too little. Still very much worth it.

Plot:
Jess wakes from a horrible nightmare to find that her life is about to change. Her mother is dead, and she is moving in briefly with her Aunt Karen before starting college. O

4.5 Hauntingly Good Stars!

This book is what I like to call a “slow-to-warm” story. It took a while to get going, but when it did…wow, what a ride! Our heroine, Jess is a very likable girl who encounters some extraordinary circumstances. We are fortunate enough to find out just how extraordinary her life is to become in real-time with her. The gripping details are revealed to the reader as Jess finds out herself. The reader is treated to suspense, a teeny but heartwarming love story, some shockin

The reviews on this book are really good, which I what drew me to the book in the first place, but there are so many books out there for such a low price, which I never finish due to many different reasons, but the main one is they are crap.

it's so well written, the characters are well thought out, it's a gripping read, and someone has said in a previous review not to read in the middle of a work shift. They are spot on! I was lucky that I was cruising around the Med deeply engrossed in my new f

Spirit Legacy was a great read from start to finish, it did take me a little while to fully get into the story but once I did I was hooked. This story had a very slow build-up and kind of drags on for a bit, but then it does a complete 360 and your pulled in deeper and can't stop reading until the last page. Out of all the characters Jess would have to be my favorite, her character was very well developed and likable. I also liked Tess's character and that she was always there for Jess no matter ...more

My best advice is: do not begin reading this book if it is a work night. I just couldn't put it down. The very beginning was somewhat slow because the author was introducing the characters. My attention was held because the under current was clear that very good things were to come, and I was not disappointed. The characters are well developed. The story was spooky yet tugged at my heart strings. I can't wait until the next book. But, I am afraid that if there are only three books in this series ...more

I read this book in a day and a half, would have been quicker if I didn't have children to see to! Found it difficult to put down from the first line. Enjoyed it so much as soon as I read the last line I went online to order the next one and was hugely disappointed to discover it hasn't been published yet! I cannot wait for book 2! Easy to read, likeable characters and although the first book wraps up nicely so you don't feel like you are left hanging it leaves you looking forward to finding out ...more

This is truly an excellent book. It is absolutely riveting. The author made the story so believable. The college setting felt as if I was there. The home setting, library, the felling of the spirit entering Jess’s body to was written as if E.E. Holmes actually experienced it herself. To me this is not really a story of Jess, Hannah, Evan, Tia, Karen, but of Ms. Holmes retelling her story of her own experiences using different names and slightly altering other details. I would highly recommend th ...more

Loved It! It's hard to find a new twist these days in a storyline but this book has it. I had been searching for a week unable to decide on what to read next. I had noticed an ad for this book on FaceBook a few times and it was only a few dollars on amazon so I decided to try it. The reviews I read had compared it to the All Souls Trilogy, that's what sold me! I was not disappointed at all!!! There were some twists I didn't predict (these days I can predict thugs 2 chapters away). I can not wait ...more

Loved, loved, loved !!!!!! This story really took me by surprise !!!! It developed quickly and held my interest the entire time! The plot twists were awesome, and extremely surprising ! I felt scared, excited, sad and happy all at once. The connection between Jess, and Evan was heartbreaking !!! I still think about Evan, and wish that things had turned out differently for them, but obviously that would have been impossible. I can't wait for the second book in the trilogy, I hope it is a lot long ...more

I almost gave Spirit Legacy 4 stars because I am certain I will have nightmares about my freshman year at college. Please believe all the reviewers that warn not to start Legacy late in the day; not because it is spooky, but because this book begs to be gulped down in one piece. Holmes does not have to resort to trite plot lines for laughs, tears, frights, and surprises. Legacy's world is interesting and unique with hints of surprises to come.

This book has a slow lead up to a very interesting ending. The beginning seemed a bit choppy and poorly edited. It seemed like there were some gaps in the story. This problem got better towards the end as questions were finally answered. A bit of a warning, this book ends with a major cliff hanger. You will wish the darn book was not about to end because it had just started to get really good!

I could not put this book down and I finished it in one afternoon. It is well written and the plot and characters kept my interest. I can not wait for the next book in the series. I would definitely recommend this book.

I received this book free for my opinion on it and I can honestly say I loved it.

I absolutely loved this book from the first page. Took me a few hours to read as I couldn't put it down.
If you are into the paranormal then this book is right down your street.
It has been a long time since I have found a book I couldn't put down and loved every minute. I was very sad to finish it. I can not wait until the next book is published.
5 stars all around for me

Spirit Legacy is a fluent and anticipating novel about a girl who begins to encounter spirits. And I lived it! The style of both writing and plot engaged me. My favorite character was Milo the spirit and I look forward to seeing more if him, Hannah, and Jess. I don't think I expected to absolutely adore this book, but by the end I can tell you that I did. Completely.

I really enjoyed this book and devoured it within days. The format of the ebook was a little wonky at times but I overlooked simply because I found the story and character very enthralling. Can't wait for the next installment in the series :-)

Really enjoyed this. Downloaded it as it was on offer and because it was billed as the "new twilight". Well I suppose there are similarities in that it's set in America and the main characters are teens..but that's it! Really enjoyed this. Well written, great suspense, I couldn't put it down. Can't wait for the next one!

I loved this book! The characters were very well-developed and the story was well-written. It held my interest the whole time and I looked forward to each new chapter. This would make a fantastic movie!!! I can't wait for the next two books to come out. I would definitely recommend this book!!!

I love YA, and I love paranormal stories, so I had so much fun reading Spirit Legacy. It definitely has some can't-put-it-down parts that make you just want to curl up with it all afternoon on a rainy day. Eagerly anticipating book 2!

E.E. Holmes grew up in Wakefield, Massachusetts, where she spent the majority of her childhood reading books. She read them all the time, and, as a result, perfected the art of walking and reading at the same time, a skill she can still perform to this day with remarkably few instances of falling on her face. She also wrote many books and poems in blank books and on the backs of legal pads her fat ...more
